"Mad as a screaming weasel" is pretty accurate. One example of "bias" is that Wikipedia uses CE and BCE instead of AD and BC -- as if that were part of some conspiracy! And their complaint that some articles use British spelling is hilarious. Also, their description of evolution is pretty bad -- this is clearly americanfundamentalistconservativechristepedia.com, not just conservapedia.com.

Re: The rest of the world should be afraid, very afraid.
The frightening thing is, that is one of the more sensible things I have ever heard a conservative say.

Conservatives are heretics.
I can see the reason for the lockdown:
However, God has recently revealed on His blog that Jesus is actually His nephew, not His son.

It's the purpose of Conservapedia to be a pro-Christian version of Wikipedia.... Ashens 14:02 22 February 2007 (EST)
... Having factually incorrect information doesn't make this article pro-Christian. It makes it wrong. JoshuaZ 14:17, 22 February 2007 (EST)
Man, I'd like to nominate JoshuaZ for POTM.

A big topic these days in academia, even making the front page of The Chronicle of Higher Education, is bias against conservatives in academia.
Basically, rigous high quality academic research tends to show conservative positions are wrong. So conservatives either don't do quality research, or they can't do quality research. So they have a harder time getting tenure. Then they cry, "foul!"

It gets better!
From the article on Bill Clinton:
Bill Clinton managed to serve two terms without botching the prosecution of two wars, manipulating intelligence, engaging in a systematic program of torture, or mishandling the federal response to flooding of a major American city. Obviously, he is the devil incarnate.
I think I should quit flagging these things before someone informs the editors and they clean it all up.

It is deliciously appropriate that no certain distinction can be made between sincere idiocy and its parody on Conservapedia.
This morning I noticed that someone had written a long article on Hillary Clinton. I noticed, because last night it was only a paragraph long. It mentioned that she was involved in the national health care debate a few years ago. "National health care" was a link, and when I clicked on it I got the page on Communism.
Heh. I'm still trying to decide if that was a "sincere idiocy" or a parody.

I'm hesitant to accept what is written in an environment where basically anyone can "spin" to their hearts' content. And no, I don't have any examples of un-factual or erroneous information on wiki - it's a gut reaction.
There was an article in The Chronicle of Higher Education a while back on Wikipedia. Evidently, someone had experts in various fields compare Wikipedia articles with articles in other more traditional encyclopedias like Britannica. Wikipedia did as well as all the other encyclopedias as far as factual errors go.
Also, it seems that experts tend to rate Wikipedia higher than the average layman.

lunar tides
The moon causes tides on the earth, and the earth causes tides on the moon. The tidal bulge on the moon is the reason why the moon keeps the same face toward the earth (just as the tidal bulges on the earth are slowing down the earth's rotation).

Re: Moon Orbit

Personally I do not think that it would reach a point and then start collapsing back into the earth, but I could be wrong.
Yes, once the earth's rotation slowed enough so that it, too, showed the same face toward the moon, then there would be no more tidal friction, and the system should be stable.
But I, too, once read that eventually the situation would reverse, and the moon would begin to approach the earth. I can't remember why (and I was a kid, so the explanation may have been lacking); it may have something to do with the sun exerting an extra perturbation on the system.

Re: Wiki bias
Oops, sorry, Quetzal, I forgot to respond to this.
Yes, the Chronicle is online, but you need a subscription to read it (which I don't -- the department where I teach gets the paper edition).
Sorry.
Anyway (and now I am going to be mixing up different sources, I'm afraid), some people feel that Wikipedia is at least as good a source as any encyclopedia, and others are dead against it.

Re: Their "objective" take on the ACLU
Have you been reading the discussions concerning these pages? They are often more interesting than the articles themselves.

Statistics
From Statistics:
90% of all statistics are made up. For example, only 10% of Americans accept evolution as it is taught in public school.
Hee hee hee. I wonder if this was intentional?

It just gets better!
Evidently, the BBC ran a spot on Constupipedia, and a British conservative wrote in to complain about the bias against British standard spelling. Evidently the Americanfascistepedians couldn't resist a dig:
Many Americans older than I fondly recall coming to your aid in World War II when things were looking quite bleak in London.
Way to rally support for Conservadopia!
