The problem with double blind studies is that it's hard to do one on the wholistic approach which treats the body by detoxification, building up the immune system, overall diet via nutrition and multiple suplements et al. I'll agree with molbiogirl here, there is nothing scientific in medicine that cannot be covered in some way by a double blind study, and this is the surest way to show actual effects of the different methods. I am participating in one now so that others may benefit from new knowledge on what works and what doesn't. This is the way learning is advanced.
His story is somewhat like a double blind study. He once was an avid conventional heart surgeon who had no knowledge or interest in alternatives. I listen to him often on many health related subjects and he regularly refers to studies and peer review studies to support things he does and advocates in his naturopath clinic. I don't see how this relates to a double blind study at all. Blinded experiment - Wikipedia
quote: Alternative Medicine being done by a strong advocate (ie your Dr Whitaker) falls into the same category as single blind test, poorly controlled, at best. Have you ever looked up those studies to see what they say? Does he present any studies that contradict what he says and then answer those contradictions? Enjoy. Either I'm being labelled as Toxic Waste, or this is how I'm prepped for a daily shower:
I developed a mild allergy to the adhesive used for the regular covers that caused a slight rash that kept getting aggravated by subsequent covering, and they had to improvise this with a specimen bag and medical masking tape. Lasts just long enough for a quicky (shower). Things keep looking up. My cell counts are climbing and they are talking about taking the hickman line out (I could be better off with a regular IV as I don't need any medication at this time) AND they are talking about possible release a day early! I could be on a bicycle in less than a week (just not 59 miles yet ... I'll work on 5.9 first) Enjoy. I've made some suggestions which I believe to be beneficial to you since you're highly esteemed by me and others here at EvC so I didn't want to remain silent on something that may help save your life or make your ordeal a little less trumatic. Thanks Buz, I appreciate it. I am actually doing quite well now with the treatment phase over and the recovery phase going well (no sores or fevers or other problems) and it looks like discharge either wed or thur this week. Then it will be a matter of further longer term recovery at home, to regain strength, and to continue rebuilding my immune system. There is a good possibility that all cancerous cells were killed in the process, but we won't know for some time if that is so. I have no doubt that some alternative methods will continue to show positive effects on overal health. The problem is sorting the wheat from the chaff until those studies show results (and yes double blind studies have been done that cover decade of time). I don't know if RAZ has spoken with a hospital dietician,... Every day here, in planning meals for the next day based on needs and appetite.
Is it not logical to determine that certain foods are more healthful than others? Yes, but healthful for aspect (A) may not be healthful for aspect (B), and some people may be affected different from other (think allergies). This makes holistic problematical. thanks Edited by RAZD, : . by our ability to understand Rebel American Zen Deist ... to learn ... to think ... to live ... to laugh ... to share. • • • Join the effort to solve medical problems, AIDS/HIV, Cancer and more with Team EvC! On average. What about the maximum lives? What you could be seeing is a product of statistics (large diverse sample versus small homogeneous sample) rather than life-style. To make a fair comparison you would have to compare it to people with similar health regimens (re smoking and drinking say), and you should also compare it to other religious groups (buddhist monks, catholic nuns, etc).
Enjoy Edited by RAZD, : . by our ability to understand Rebel American Zen Deist ... to learn ... to think ... to live ... to laugh ... to share. • • • Join the effort to solve medical problems, AIDS/HIV, Cancer and more with Team EvC! (click) • • •

I'm unplugged and out of the slammer and ensconced at my half-way house, starting a 30 day period of isolation and observation to see how my recovery continues. Tomorrow I can start walks in the neighborhood (with mask and glove for protection).
I'm feeling pretty good, though not my full self yet (one flight of stairs bags me) Enjoy. Btw, I'm quite sure that none of our B vit supplements are synthetic. According to the labels, they are derived from extracts of plants. We purposefully avoid synthetic vitamin suppliments. Irrelevant. They are still concentrated far more than found in foods, even the ones you list. Of course eating bugs would help increase the B vit in your diet, and is one of the things that primates and apes (and aborigines) do. You would not need the B vit supplements from any source if diet were sufficient.
I'm sure cows & deer get plenty of B vits from grass & whatever plant food they are able to consume. Irrelevant: we don't eat grass and cannot process it in our stomachs the way cows and deer do. We are, however, neither carnivorous nor herbivorous, but omnivorous. Chimps are occasional meat eaters and will hunt for it. Americans may eat too much meat, but meat is a part of the normal human diet and has been for some time. Enjoy. Razd, your whole message is quite irrevelant to my message ... Perhaps you would like to start a thread on health, vitamins and holistic approaches. I appreciate your concern, but this is getting off topic on the matter of cancer survival. Thanks. My health improves every day, my strength increases and my endurance. It starts with little things, like being able to walk around the block (a small residential block with ~10 houses on it), to being able to stay up past 8pm. Of course there are still frequent naps per day, but these too are decreasing. My latest checkup (yesterday) showed much improvement in platelets (those cells that heal wounds) and white cells (the ones that fight infections). I can now walk around the block without having to wear a surgical mask, though one is still recommended when around strange people (who may be infected with some low grade disease that could still overwhelm my young system). It is like starting again as a child with my immunity system, it needs to grow and be able to deal with the everyday diseases. Unfortunately I don't get the boost from breastmilk that kids get (as much as I would like to try ... ) ... but at the end of 6 months I will be getting some of the prophylactic immunizations again to boost my system. They will only give me the ones NOT made from living viruses, as those will still pose a danger at that time. The living ones (including measles) may be done after a year from the cell transplant, and it may take 1 t 3 years for the immune system to reach normal levels. This means travel to foreign locations may need to be curtailed accordingly, certainly to areas of questinable health practices. Still there are many places to see in this world and many things to do: boredom is not an issue. Oh, and I can start cycling again (around the block ...). Fitness after all is a big part of overall health eh? Enjoy. Tour de France started today, prologue won by a swiss rider. Should be interesting to see who emerges from the crowd come the mountains.
I also rode by bike for the first ride since the hospital today. Less than a mile, and only moderate little hills. Pooped. Hopefully I can build up better on the bike than walking (uses more of my body). I might run out of neighborhood soon (I'll have to cross a major road to expand riding area, but it is also flat over there). And I'll need a water bottle. Enjoy. compare Fiocruz Genome and fight Muscular Dystrophy with Team EvC! I am feeling pretty much my old self again. Gone back to the old avatar as a result. Up to 15 miles cycling, but tired afterwards. Start work again in a week, so posting time will be down (its been slow anyway).
Looking forward. Enjoy.
