Jar too is guilty of indifference towards the Biblical God, going so far as to say that humans should correct said character whenever He(She(It) makes a mistake.
That is not what jar says, it is what the Bible says.

Re: Morality is impossible without communion
I wont disagree, except to say that you as well as I have His Spirit within us, operating in communion with our own Spirit and need to recognize that we don't ultimately define God...we are defined by God through His Holy Spirit.(Of course, this is probably biased propaganda to one who believes themselves to be the ultimate judge and authority.)
How do you tell what is this so called spirit?
What does "we are defined by God through His Holy Spirit" even mean?
What does any of that have to do with morality?

Re: Even sheep that think they walk independantly have a shepherd
You dont need to believe that the shepherd is leading you in order to be led by the shepherd.
HUH?
You simply have to do what you know internally is right.
Note what you said; "do what YOU know internally is right."
You may think its your conscience but it is His voice.
And the evidence to support that assertion?
When your conscience tells you to kill gays or destroy the Great Satan it is his voice?

Re: Selflessness Test
What I have said and maintain is that at the root of all action is some self serving motivation.
I understand that you have made that claim but how can you support that assertion in all cases?

Re: Selflessness Test
In your scenario, that individual would not be contributing to the propagation of the altruistic gene, but if the other 9 out of 10 people that have it are then it could still get selected for.
In that example it would seem that Natural Selection is filtering out altruism then?
Maybe we need a new law regarding service in the military or fire departments or police; no man or woman can serve in the military, police or in fire departments until they have produced at least an heir and a spare.

Re: Morality for all not just some
Too funny. You never have read the Bible, have you?
According to the Bible God does not have infinite knowledge.

Man decides morality, not God
I'm sorry but you continue to deny what has been shown to you. According to the Bible, man has the same knowledge of right and wrong that God has, and the Bible says that man is as moral, often more moral than God.
Man decides what is right or wrong, what is moral or immoral, and through consensus reach a position that becomes the standard for the society and era.
It really is that simple.
No God needed.

Re: Homo-empathicus
Then how do genes make decisions affecting behavior in a given situation?

Re: Homo-empathicus
I'm not at all sure strong is a valid word when it comes to actions.
Yes there is a genetic component to eye color, height, sex, hair color, premature balding ...but I see far less evidence for any genetic component when it comes to morality or taste or love or beauty or other things where an individual makes a decision on actions in a specific incident.
