"Do you have statistics demonstrating that Muslim women are better off now that France and Belgium have banned burqas?" I will have the moment a fire hits any building in those countries and girls do not die because they were forced to wear that apparel. I do have statistical information that all the citizens of both France and Belgium are better off in the sense that the majority ruled that the apparel in question was not desired by the majority. That rule of law serves all the Muslims in those communities as it protects the predominant culture and their desires. RegardsDL

Does it sound like when in Rome do as the Romans do? You forget that Islam's agenda is always to try to have Sharia as the law of the land. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dRr854zxbA&feature=playe... If they do not want to live by our hard earned standards then they can stay the hell away. You may not have noted that they always want to live in our better systems and few of us try to go to theirs to live because we would not like their standards. Why would you want Canada to regress towards right wing fundamental Muslim standards? Do you like homophobes and misogyny? RegardsDL Edited by Greatest I am, : No reason given.

LOL. "but forced conformity is very likely to breed unrest." What is every law we have on the books if not forced conformity? Democracy is the tyranny of the majority. RegardsDL

I pulled the one statement I saw as worthy and true. "It's not about the oppressiveness of burkas; it's about the refusal to live with the differences they represent." Your first is only partially true as oppression is secondary to your last. I refuse to live with an outward sigh of internal slavery that many Muslim women have to live under. All moral people will be offended to have slaves in our free land. Did you hear what that woman in the O.P.'s link said about her husband saying--- its just a small piece of cloth? What is the cost of your freedom? RegardsDL

Canada would be seen as leading by moral example. Every nail in the coffin of immoral actions, oppression and slavery is required before we bury such foul policies. RegardsDL

Exactly. We give women the right to choose and to do so by cutting out the slave owning men's power to impose their will. It is like a slave being freed from her chains. RegardsDL

In a sense, we are all slaved to the law of the land and the state gives us all equality under the law. That equality is what I wish to replace the oppression of Muslim women with. You do believe in equality. Right? Do Muslim women deserve the freedom from oppression that the state gives you? RegardsDL

I am the mirror image of what I loathe because as a Gnostic Christian, I tie equality to righteousness and if you do not, you are not a moral man. Gnostic Scriptures and Fragments: Epiphanes - On Righteousness RegardsDL

"One of those hard-earned standards is welcoming people with diverse backgrounds and ideas." Yes, but we do not allow a slave owning standard. Nor do we allow the oppression of women and girls. We live in a free land and it is our duty to insure that freedom, is everyone's standard. RegardsDL

"Do you also think that Nuns should be prevented from wearing a Habit?" I think all religions that do not have equality as a part of their theology should be outlawed as the law of the land gives us all equality. Are nuns second class citizens or considered inferior to the organization or within their church? Yes they are. Should Canada as a country support such a notion and allow it on it's land. No. All Canadian women should be and demand equal status to all men. RegardsDL

Not if the majority rules against it like it did in France and other countries. If it will not tolerate slave garb then that is the law. RegardsDL

Me?? This is not about me. What I want is not really relevant in terms of authority. Think of the issue and not the personal. RegardsDL

The majority will rule and so far my side looks to be ahead as most recognize that Islam is quite a misogynistic and immoral religion. The left wing is not nearly as evil as the right wing and it is a shame that some few on the left will have to be restricted to insure the freedoms of the many. RegardsDL

"before we pass a law, we should make sure there is pretty good evidence that the benefits of forced conformity will outweigh the detriments." Indeed. That is what surveys and discussions and debates do, --- both for Muslims who should be heard and for non-Muslims as well. If the link in the O.P., and the Muslim women in it are correct, statistics will fall on my side of the argument. If not, Canadians will have to tolerate slave designating garb on our streets. ------ GIA writes:Democracy is the tyranny of the majority. Blue Jay writes...which we all agree is a bad thing, right? ---------- No. Laws have to be and should all be firmly and tyrannically enforced otherwise enforcement would become arbitrary. If that were to happen, respect for law enforcement, police and law makers would disappear and would likely be replaced with vigilantism. RegardsDL

"holy me and evil thee" Are you saying that you do not believe in equality and that just because you think you are in the majority that that makes you moral? RegardsDL
