Israel and Palestine are at war over land they both have claim to. The only way palestinians can do anything about it is through terrorism, or violent protest. Imagine if the Chinese came in and reversed the roles of Native Americans and European Americans. Would you stand quietly by while your family was forcefully moved by foreign troops onto a reservation and your property confiscated? This is what the world is expecting from palestinians. So lets have a little understanding about the difference between a slaughter for slaughter's sake (Holocaust) and a fight for one's homeland (Middle East Conflict). You seem to think they are the same thing while in truth they are two different beasts all together.

I respectfully disagree. Defending your country, family, or property from invasion is a legitimate reason for killing other people. The question of killing innocent civilians through terror attacks is a different matter, and the moral lines are much hazier. But lets not forget about the killing of palestinian innocents either. What is collateral damage to the Israelis seems like genocide to the palestinians. If it were up to me I would let them fight it out by themselves without anyone looking over their shoulders, winner take all. It will probably end that way anyway even with the UN or US help.Am I desensitized? Maybe. Great Grandfather in WWI, Grandfather in WWII, Dad in Vietnam. . . I was afraid to enlist just because they might start a war just for me. The legacy of war in America is a bloody and violent one. I just prefer not to ignore it and claim that America has clean hands. Afterall, our nation was founded by terrorists, otherwise known as our Founding Fathers. We called it a revolution, the british called it treason. Both are probably right.

The US is obsessed with playing umpire with it's Army. We unjustly blame those who don't bend to our wishes. If North Korea were attacking South Korea like Israel attacks Palestine, American guns would be a blazin'. Don't kid yourself. Next time you want to shed a tear for the plight of the Jew, think about the oppression of the palestinians at the hands of Israel. If you think Sharon want's peace you have another thing coming. Your definition of fascism is so far out of whack that it pains me even to write this reply. I am asking you to actually research what fascism is. Hint: insert nationalism somewhere in the definition.

In hindsight, I probably should have stated what I thought fascism was. Dan's post above defines the central theme of fascist regimes. Physical violence is a key mechanism in upholding a fascist government and is justified by nationalism. Chrystal Nacht (sp?) or the Night of Broken Glass perpetrated by the Nazi's is a good example of fascism. Nazi's walked through the streets destroying Jewish businesses in an attempt to intimidate the Jewish community.So my quick definition of fascism is a authoritarian or totalitarian governmental body that use violence to intimidate their opposition within their country. Often, fascism is rationalized by appealing to nationalism and patriotism, and therefore must find some support within the populace. The rise of Hitler is a perfect example of using nationalism as a tool towards a fascist dictatorship.Using the above definition, please show how professors and the educated elite are practicing fascists.
