I believe the term you're looking for is "inserted that."
I don't think there was any dishonesty involved; you probably read it and came away with the genuine impression that he is a preacher. But there's absolutely nothing in the text to suggest that he is one. It was your invention.
Perhaps the next time someone suggests that you're projecting ideas onto something that aren't there, you might remember this?
