the only available testimony is in so called 'holy books'. these have no reliability outside their own word. we can't trust that as historically accurate until there is outside proof. just like we can't trust homer that there were really great big scary monsters causing the sea to do crazy things like whirlpools.
and the belief of centuries of christians is worth nothing more than the belief of the last half century of moon-landing conspiratists.

Re: Absolute truth refutes relative evidence(By Faith)
Outside of what? While it is often good and healthy to examine organized religion by consulting "experts" outside its ranks, you will not find definite theological answeres from these so-called experts not only because they have no agenda (as many claim) but because they are incapable of seeing the forest apart from the trees in regards to divine impartation---they simply won't take that necessary first step and believe!
i don't care about theological answers or divine impartation. i care about clear, historical proof for a man there are only tall tales about. yes there was really a molly pitcher. did she really water every colonial soldier? prolly not. yes there really was a john chapman. did he actually plant an apple tree in every county in the nation all the way to the pacific? no. was there really a jesus? if so, give me some proof besides these tall tales. and unless you have something new, there isn't any. i don't want to hear how much you really believe or how much you really want it to be true. i want it to be true, too. but i really don't think it is and i really know it can't be proven based on what is available. if you gave 6 billion people heroin, they'd all have visions too.

Re: Topic
so funny that there's a whole variety of individuals whose lives are described with great and exceptional details... but they're entirely false. what is it, three thousand years of fictional literature fabricated by humans. anyone who has ever seen a trial or crucifixion could easily have made up the jesus tale. it's not hard to imagine a guy having 12-15 close friends one of whom decides there's something more valuable and worth betrayal. it's not hard to repeat moral statements and make up miracles. every wants the blind to be able to see and for little girls to not die. it's really not hard to compile such an epic. ever read beowulf? he sure did a lot of stuff.
now. imagine four or 6 different people get together and each write their own versions of this. you're bound to get some exceptional stories. you think humans are so special and yet you question their creativity. funny.

Re: mythicist imaginative speculative revisionism
but it is the truth.
so you believe.
just because you're convinced, doesn't make it truth.

on being unmistaken
yes but we aren't all so... verbal about it. most of us tend to describe things from an opinion standing rather than a gospel standing if you forgive my nasty pun.
