Author | Topic: AntiGod education should not be compulsary (even for non wealthy) | |||||||||||||||||||||||

So the people you mentioned feel calling it a theory graces it too much, and makes one thing it's equal to laws of gravity etc.You then think by referring to the theory at all I must try to show it is a hypothesis. I suppose if I was teaching or something, and someone needed it, perhaps. But in this instance it isn't my point, or job to debate the thing. What is of issue is whether it must be taught or not, to our children.

Why do you think it is harmful?

quote: you are mistaken. a scientific theory is an explanation of several related natural phenomena (facts/empirical observations). so, a theory is an explanation of the facts. it is also falsifiable, testable, and subject to peer review. that is science. since the theory of evolution follows this protocal, it is considered science and is included in a science class, as it should be.
quote: they do study those things in public school. those topics fall under the social sciences and are found in classes like world history.
quote: and many people believe that earth is flat! just type flatearthsociety in a search engine. as i have said before, evolution deals with natural phenomena and is inherently areligious. notice i did not say "antireligious" or "atheistic". for it to espouse atheism, evolution would have to take a stance on the supernatural. by definition, science cannot make a supernatural claim and still be science.
quote: here is another tid-bit from some creationists. its an oldy, but a goody: a creationist organization in texas lobbied to have the metric system taken out of public schools b/c "jesus had twelve disciples, not ten"!?! that is a big WTF!?! i handled the rest of what you said in that statement on another thread, i think. or was it this one. i say the same damned things so many times that i forget where i said them. it was recent if you want to check my post history.
quote: many people on this thread have addressed your topic. we have also provided many rebuttals to your false assertions. as a science teacher, i really don't care if you agree or disagree with evolution. what i do care about are young minds that will some day find a cure for cancer, cure aids, go to the moon, make a funny superbowl ad, run for president, etc...my students acheiving their dreams is my goal. for that, they need a well-rounded education. you obviously have a limited science background and would rather parrot outmoded, outdated, disproved, or downright false assertions. i have an idea. don't look into the evidences for evolution right away. look at the evidences for creationism and the criticisms of those evidences. then take a look back at evolution. know something about what you profess before you waste any more of our time.

Trampled by Jesus' army bent on conquiring the world by violence? Oh well, might as well be ready. Somebody get me bin Laden's phone number please?

Hi.
I am of the opinion that answersingenesis is a website full of garbage written by clueless individuals, so why would exposing these idiots make the world a darker place? Unless of course you are one of the deluded who think that answersingenesis is a credible site. If you could actually respond properly to a person's message then it would save all this extra time and effort. Brian.

But in this instance it isn't my point, or job to debate the thing. What is of issue is whether it must be taught or not, to our children You don't seem to pay attention to what you post do you? The reasons you give for not teaching is that it isn't a valid theory. However, you are incapable of showing that. Therefore the only reason you have left for not teaching it is that you don't know it yourself and you are of such a weak form of faith that your faith is in danger if scientific ideas are taught. There is no reason for anyone else to listen to you. Why bother posting if you can't say anything worth listening to.

quote: Gee, my Buddhist friends might have a problem with you indoctrinating their children in a religion that they do not follow. Since there are public schools in neighborhoods where the vast majority of families are non-Christian (for example, on Native American reservations, or in Chinatown areas), don't you think that it would be rather arrogant for the government to dictate what religious indoctrination the children received?
quote: So, you suggest that the US force a certain Christian indoctrination on everyone's children, using everyone's tax money, even the money paid by non-christians? How Facist of you.
quote: As the great Cthulu said, most of our Founding Fathers were Deist, not Christian.

I note that 14gipper has confined his/her posting to just this topic. I think as long as that continues, I can tolerate 14.
Might I suggest that the evo side take a break, and give 14gipper a big piece of room to make a more major statement on the whys etc. of his/her position? Cheers,Larger font Adminnemooseus Comments on moderation procedures? - Go to Change in Moderation? or too fast closure of threads

quote: "Doesn't." "...Other times he doesn't" is the correct grammar, not "...other times he don't.
quote: You need a comma after "works", and the correct way to make a word plural is to just add an 's'; using the apostrophe 's' makes it a posessive. Oh, you also misspelled "compulsory" in the title of this topic. I don't normally pick on spelling and grammar errors because we all make them from time to time, but I just couldn't resist pointing out the numerous examples you made in the light of your blanket criticisms of science. Tell me again why I want to take your advice on how we should educate children?

The intent, was a suggestion, not a SUGGESTION.
That said, I suggest all note the Admin Percy message at http://EvC Forum: Fossil sorting for simple Things are looking that I'm going to be away from the 'puter for quite a while today, so use your own judgement, and don't wait for the green light.
