(Why don't more (any?) women do Curly Howard impressions? Seriously?)
Personally, I'd say that's evidence that women have a better sense of humor than men; I'm not a Stooges fan.
Forum participants, please name up to THREE of your favorite woman comedians.
I'd say mine are Brett Butler, Janene Garofalo and Rita Rudner. I'm not sure I've ever seen Garofalo do stand up, so if you're looking specifically for that, I'd add Paula Poundstone.
Roseanne was very entertaining at first, but she wore thin (ironically) before too long. I recognize that Lilly Tomlin is a tremendous talent, but she's not my cop of tea for the most part. I don't get Tracy Ullman at all.
Please name up to FIVE of your favorite FUNNY movies.
First three are easy, no question and uncontestably the three funniest movies ever made. In no particular order:
Airplane
What's Up Doc?
Being There
If I had to go to five, I'd probably add Dogma and Ruthless People

Pre 70s comedy masterpieces
So far no one has offered any pre 1970s comedy movie. Hmm.
Well, let's fix that right away.
Again, in no particular order:
Arsenic and Old Lace
My Man Godfrey
His Girl Friday
It Happened One Night
Some Like it Hot
If you ask any man who the three greatest American men in history are, they would reply, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Moe*.
Not this one.
What the hell, as long as we're doing lists, and the actual topic notwithstanding, I feel compelled to present my list of the greatest male stand ups. As usual, in no particular order:
Bill Cosby
Robin Williams
Bob Newhart
and of course, George Carlin

Re: Pre 70s comedy masterpieces
Animal Crackers (1930) Marx Bros. I often describe our processes here at work as "Marxist".
Ah. Well, if we're going to start talking comedy teams:
The Marx Brothers
Bob and Ray
Stiller and Meara
Burns and Schreiber
Burns and Carlin (yes, it's the same Burns in the last two teams)

Re: Pre 70s comedy masterpieces
Definitely listen to some Bob and Ray, it's the driest humor you could ever imagine, but very clever. I was listening to a tape of their best stuff in the car and had to pull over before I hit something.
I absolutely agree with the first two teams you mention. All in the Family never did much for me.

Re: Pre 70s comedy masterpieces
Never really heard any Lenny or Bill Hicks, so I have no opinion.
I like Steve Martin's stand up, but his movies by and large left me completely flat.
Gallagher is a guilty pleasure, he always tickled me. I'd list among my least favorites:
Will Ferrell
Adam Sandler (he should die for Mr. Deeds)
Pauly Shore
Carrot Top
Pee Wee Herman
Phil Hartman
John Lovitz
That's enough, I'm sure you're ready to burst a vein already.

Re: Pre 70s comedy masterpieces
You don't like Ferrell, Sandler, Hartman and Lovitz.
As far as I can tell, each of them is a one trick pony. They do virtually the same thing all the time. And for each of them, I find the thing they do annoying and not the least bit funny.
But, to each their own.
Never saw Blow. Did Pee Wee do something different in any way from Pee Wee?

Re: Comic Dames?
ALL men find women annoying and boring, that's why we have male friends. You guys (at this point from our convo I'm assuming your a female - if I'm wrong, sorry.) can be good partners, lovers, best friend - that's all well and good - but fun, funny or as fun to hang out with as our male friends? Hellllz-to-the-NO! Any guy saying anything different is a liar!
Dude, seriously. I've had several friends who were women whose intelligence and sense of humor I greatly enjoyed. Of course, I also wanted to get into their pants. But I still found them fun to hang out with regardless of whether I got into their pants or not.
If you're not taking the mick with us and are serious, you need to find new friends. Or reevaluate your relationship with reality.

Re: Pre 70s comedy masterpieces
Saw Stranger Than Fiction, SSDD, and zero acting chops.
I love improv, it's my favorite type of comedy. Just never seen any of them do it. I'm afraid, however, that they'd just do it all the same as they did everything else.

Re: Comic Dames?
But don't give this bullshit about them being more fun to hang with than your male friends. Would you go out with your girlfriend or wife's friends and just hang out at a happy hour with them? Just you and them? If you would then YOU need the reality check, bro.
You be the hater, I'll be the lover. Suits me.
