The New Neo-Nazi's

The difference between neo-Nazis and university professors who support Palestine? Well, gee, how many university professors burn down minority owned businesses, beat people to death, or shoot up preschools? If all neo-Nazis did was speak in favor of Palestine, there would be a few more people alive in Oklahoma City.The difference between even the most anti-semetic university professors and the neo-Nazis is that the neo-Nazis aren't just justifying the killings, they are actually killing people.

That doesn't actually seem to be WT's argument. Maybe I am misrepresenting it, but it seems to be simply that higher education does not lead to morality. It isn't that higher education leads to evil, just that it doesn't lead to good. Unless all university professors are saints, this seems to be a true statement.However, I am not sure why this point needed to be made, or who it needed to be made to. I haven't heard anyone say otherwise before.

I'm nor sure if you read it yet, but I think there has been at least one post that explains that neo-Nazis/skinheads and the old Nazis were not just justifying the killing of Jews, they were actually killing Jews. The actually killing Jews part is what made them monsters instead of just being jerks.This is how the highly educated people you mentioned and the Nazis are too different for a relevant analogy. Glad I could clear this up.

I am not overlooking the fact that Nazis justified killing Jews or that there are people justifying the killing today. That is a rather feeble misrepresentation of my position. What I was saying is that the much greater crime the Nazis undertook was GENOCIDE, which is what made the Nazis monsters rather than just rats. The university professors you have a beef with may be rats, but they are not causing GENOCIDE and are thus not the monsters that Nazis were.A similar comparison would be to comparing a police officer to the Son of Sam. Since both fired guns, there is no difference between the two. Or perhaps comparing the Spanish inquisitors to you. The inquisitors were religious, and you are religious, thus there is no difference between you and they. See the problem with specious comparisons yet?

Of course there are no good rationales for murdering anyone. That really wasn't my point.Is it your position, though, that university professors are aiding the suicide bombers, or just engaging in armchair philosophy?

I am not arguing the content of the metaphorical comparison of the Nazis and the university professors. My argument is that you are exaggerating the similarities. Say that the two groups are alike, but do not say that there is no difference, as this is demonstrably untrue. Saying that they "are doing the exact same thing that Nazis did," would be better restated as "they are doing one of the things that Nazis did." To do otherwise is to imply that those professors are engaging in genocide, or that the Nazis simply justified murder.For example, I can say that the fundamentalist Christians who lived around where I grew up were like the Nazis for burning books. However, to say that there is no difference between the two groups is not true. To say that they "are doing the exact same thing that Nazis did" would be to imply that either all the Nazis were just book burners, or that the fundamentalist Christian book burners are also mass murderers.
