I don't see that it is an ultimatum for how to react to every attack from every kind of enemy in every situation in both individual and corporate contexts. It's certainly a guideline for how to react to most of them. And it certainly is the opposite of JESUS Freak's position - when you're hit, hit back harder. Surely you can agree that these two positions are antithetical?
Similarly, if I were say, sitting in a tower somewhere and a terrorist organization blew me up, it would be up to the national government to adminsiter justice and protect the freedom of others. Yes, justice. Not vengance. Vengance is God's.
Alright, say that you're wife is raped and murdered by a paroled criminal. Are you going to beg the police to stop chasing him and send him some money? When the police do catch him, I should do everything I can to help him become a better person. Will I be able to? I hope I never have to find out.
All right then. Why are we even arguing? Because you replied to a message that wasn't addressed to you, arguing against a position I never took.
But somehow you interpret this sentence he spoke to mean that we either should never fight evil men or if we do, never fight harder than they do. No. Jesus's teaching is about how you respond, and what motivates your response. When we're attacked by evil, we need to respond. But that response, according to Jesus, must not be motivated by a thirst for retribution nor a desire to mete out justice. It should be motivated by a desire to improve the lot of our attackers.
I have a bag of goodies in my car for just such an occasion or just in case I meet a homeless dude. Awesome. You know what? That's a great idea. I'm going to do that too.
Show me where I've failed to follow Christ with my life. It's pretty simple. Did you vote for Bush? Case closed.

Talk about underestimating the reaction of the leftists to yet another big defeat. What was big about it? More people voted against Bush than have ever voted against any president, ever.
This thread simply proves a point I have made for years, that the Democratic party has been hijacked by extreme left-wing liberals hell bent on force-feeding their losing agenda to the majority of the populace. Yeah, our agenda of "leave people the fuck alone." I can really see how that would be so objectionable to arrogant moralist busybodies such as yourself.

I figured you to be one of the aforementioned left-wing liberal extremists who just doesn't get it.....boy did I have you pegged right. Brilliant, Sherlock. Maybe, with your next feat of investigative legerdemain, you can tell me who's buried in Grant's tomb? Actually, maybe in your next post, you could actually rebut my points. You have a big problem with that, as I recall.

Like I said, the record voter turnout means that Bush faced record opposition, as well. Nobody's ever had more votes against him than Bush.
All in all, he won by a margin of about 3 million votes. If you think that's "winning big" then it's you who needs to be looking up words.

It's not the people. It's the lifestyle. Being gay isn't a lifestyle, though. Fishing is a lifestyle. Homosexuality is a sexual orientation. Not a lifestyle.

Ah yes, the tolerant Left. You know, we're actually done with tolerance. Sorry. I figure that if the anti-civil rights movement can string up black folks and tie gay men to fences and beat them to death, well... turnaround is fair play, don't you think? Tolerance is done. It's been replaced by seething anger. If I were you I'd think twice before you started picking on the "tolerant" liberals you think won't fight back.

I find that stuff repugnant. I have never advocated it But largely, you stand with those who do. I mean, you're not with us, so you must be with them, right? I mean, I really don't see much of a substantial difference between folks like you, who want gays to be just a little less equal, and them, who want gays to be all the way less equal. Look, if you don't like the company your beliefs put you in, that's not really my problem.

Meh. I'm sorry you folks got all touchy about it, but honestly, I haven't said anything worse than what I've been hearing from folks like Paisano for the past couple of days. Of course, I was being facetious. The scary thing is, the folks I've been hearing haven't been.
But I trust my point is clear. The days when liberals are going to be your kick-around guys in the name of "tolerance" are over. If conflict is the price for civil equality and opposing theocratic intrusion into our pivate lives, then that's the price we'll pay.

The problem is not tolerance but intolerance and how to defuse it. Being tolerant of intolerance is not going to accomplish that. Our Founding Fathers went to war because their freedom was unfairly restricted. They never tried to make the argument that other people had the freedom to restrict their freedoms. But I see what you're saying. Conservatives believe that things worked in the past, so the past should continue into the future. DarkStar and his ilk have made it very clear that they see the problem as one of a deviation from some kind of "Golden Age." We need to help them see that, if that age ever even existed, it was Golden only for the rich white anglo-saxon Protestants. Everybody else took it right in the ass.
