Turkey Shoot.
Turkey Shoot.
In the interest of creating bi-partisan good will after such a contentious election, John Kerry and his fellow veterans invite those republicans that had such fun with the purple heart band-aides to a turkey shoot for thanksgiving, all proceeds going to support veteran benefits and the veterans hospitals. Cost is a mere $5,000 per republican. Camouflage clothing to be provided along with a turkey target that they can wear on either an arm or a leg. Each participant will be allowed to leave the field once they have sustained wounds equal or greater to Kerry or any other veteran that got a purple heart in the Vietnam or subsequent wars.
Medical service will also be provided by the Veterans Hospital to ensure that they get the quality treatment that our veterans receive everyday. Body armor for vital parts will also be provided that is the same as was issued to the National Guard units before they were mobilized into active duty.
In the interest of resuming friendly relations we expect a large turnout. Just think, this is an opportunity for the Commander in Chief and the VP to finally get an inkling of an idea of what it is like in combat.
Pot luck dinner afterwards.
(that better?)

marriage issue
lets be clear: these measures passed with a greater margin than bush over kerry in every state.
that means that dems agreed with it as well as repubs, but that it didn't affect their perception of the reality of bush's administration.
the fact that the GOP used this issue in "battleground" states to bring out certain voters just means that those voters were used.
the fact that the GOP also sent out posters to registered republicans that lied about kerry's position means that they are liars.
and they could still only just barely beat the most liberal senator from the most liberal state in a national election, a candidate who even losing got more votes than any previous president, even more than bush in 2000.
yeah, that sure is out of touch.

good point Lam ... it looks like the places where suppression of rights for some people was acceptable in the "bad old days" are the ones that don't have problems with it now.

o. my. g ....
I checked the transcript
BUSH: I wouldn't pick a judge who said that the Pledge of Allegiance couldn't be said in a school because it had the words "under God" in it. I think that's an example of a judge allowing personal opinion to enter into the decision-making process as opposed to a strict interpretation of the Constitution.
Another example would be the Dred Scott case, which is where judges, years ago, said that the Constitution allowed slavery because of personal property rights.
That's a personal opinion. That's not what the Constitution says. The Constitution of the United States says we're all -- you know, it doesn't say that. It doesn't speak to the equality of America.
this site makes a pretty strong case:
http://fairshot.typepad.com/.../2004/10/dred_scott_roe_.html
Some people seem to be a bit boggled by Bush's Dred Scott remark last night. It wasn't about racism or slavery, or just Bush's natural incoherence. Here's what Bush actually said:
If elected to another term, I promise that I will nominate Supreme Court Justices who will overturn Roe v. Wade.
Bush couldn't say that in plain language, because it would freak out every moderate swing voter in the country, but he can say it in code, to make sure that his base will turn out for him. Anti-choice advocates have been comparing Roe v. Wade with Dred Scott v. Sandford for some time now. There is a constant drumbeat on the religious right to compare the contemporary culture war over abortion with the 19th century fight over slavery, with the anti-choicers cast in the role of the abolitionists.
This is the administration of doublespeak.

Re: GODs word
yeah, starting a war for false reasons and murdering 100,000 Iraqi civilians is more moral than stating that you personally are against abortion but also are against forcing the lack of choice onto other citizens who may be for abortion.
