I don't believe anyone here has ever said that any possible gay gene would SOLELY determine sexuality.

Brain Sex by Anne Moir, David Jessel. It is a fascinating read on hormones, genetics and sexuality.
One interesting section in the book described experiments with rats where hormone levels in pregnant mothers were changed to varying degrees during different parts of the pregnancy. These experiments produced offspring that ran the full gamut of sexuality that is seen in humans. These hormone level changes were also well within the range that is seen in humans.
