I just don't think evolution and the big bang are the number one determination of a man. It is stalinist to declare a person useless or even worse a danger to society because he fails to believe in what all the "educated" people believe in.
Stalinist? Hardly. The irony is that Stalin rejected Darwinian evolution and instead forced scientists to follow a more Lamarckian type of evolution dubbed Lysenkoism. This put Russian agriculture generations behind other countries who were using Darwinian principles to produce cultivar strains.
What we have in the case of these legislators is a group of people that are willing to sacrifice the education of children in order to score ideological points in the name of religion. This is exactly the type of behavior we do NOT need amongst those who control education.

Yes, I know what it means in everyday political and social language. Here are three headlines to various newstories on the web that used the phrase "stalinist tactics".
So who is really using Stalinist tactics? That would actually be the congressman who is trying to get evolution pulled out of schools. You do understand that, don't you? It is because Stalin also used political power to get Darwinian evolution removed from schools. Were you aware of this? Not only do you get the science wrong, you also get history wrong.

Re: Mainstream Media? Really?
I put educated in quotes if you did not notice. I don't consider you people educated in the real sense of the word. When I say the "educated" man, I mean the propagandized, group thinked, and brainwashed man.
If that doesn't sound like Stalin then nothing does. Should we be sent to the gulags for re-education?
The fact of the matter is that many of us are trained in the sciences. That means, we understand what the scientific consensus is and the facts that led to that consensus. If you want to budge us off of that consensus then you need to bring evidence, not vitriol and a persecution complex. Capiche?

I am anything but a sheep thank you very much.
WHAT!!!!?????
Who is the one who thinks that the Earth is less than 10,000 years old, species were magically created by a supernatural deity, and that there was a recent global flood?
You are a sheep. Wake up.

who is it that keeps repeating the etch a sketch mantra?
Who keeps using it? One moment Romney is writing an op-ed saying that we should let auto manufacturers go bankrupt, and the next moment he is saying that we should bail them out. Etch-a-sketch indeed.

It took me agreeing with you people on the age of the earth and the universe to get any positive reps, otherwise I get bombarded with negative rep when I don't follow the party line. If that isn't fascism, I don't know what is.
Do you think that someone who pushes Geocentrism should be cheered?

Like I said, christians don't believe what God says in his word because of the evidence. Likewise, they don't stop believing what God says in his word because all of the evidence shows the belief is false.
"First, . . . to want to affirm that in reality the sun is at the center of the world and only turns on itself without moving from east to west, and the earth . . . revolves with great speed about the sun . . . is a very dangerous thing, likely not only to irritate all scholastic philosophers and theologians, but also to harm the Holy Faith by rendering Holy Scripture false."--Cardinal Bellarmine, 1615
I would hope that you believe that the Sun moves about the Earth, otherwise you will have to stop believing what the word of God says.

As a general reply, I have no problem with elected officials holding religious beliefs. I feel that what one believes or does not believe should not be a hurdle to elected office.
At the same time, no elected official should be writing laws whose sole justification is "because the Bible says so". We live in a secular society ruled by a secular constitution. Our laws need to have a secular justification. So what is the secular justification for removing the Big Bang, evolution, etc. from science classes? From what I can see, there is no secular justification. The only justification given is a religiously based one. Sorry, but that does not pass the sniff test, or the Lemon test for that matter:
Lemon v. Kurtzman - Wikipedia
