I don't show a bias when I base my opinion on lots of information that an individual has posted. If my conclusion is based on bias rather than fact perhaps you can show how Buz is actually "getting it" at all. Even a tiny little bit. Just a smidgeon. Can you? "Getting it" is totally subjective to the one condescendingly claiming otherwise, no? Because whatever you claim that Buz doesn't "get" may very well be evidence of something you don't "get." I mean, while I'm sure that in your mind you have all the right answers lined up in sequential order, try and remember that there is a distinct possibility that you're wrong. Even supposing he wasn't getting something, you know damn well Buz is not one of the people on this forum who speaks out of line and with blatant disrespect. And this after years of abuse at the hands of his detractors. Even if you don't agree with his beliefs, just be constructive about it. While debate can be heated and impassioned there is little sense in straying from civility, especially when you are in an admin role. Please don't act as if it is unreasonable to expect some kind of professionalism while you are in a position of authority. You would expect it from the police, and forum members expect it from you here. Reserve your activism for when you are in a member role. The bottom line is that you're out of line, and it wouldn't at all surprise if at some point Admin quietly pulled you aside and tell you the same thing. Over the years it would appear that you're quite prone to this, whereas the other admins don't seem to have this problem.
This is the last response in this vein as any furtherance of this discussion would be off topic. Edited by Nemesis Juggernaut, : Edit to remind moderators how to moderate a forum “Tu ne cede malis sed contra audentior ito"

You are, apparently not prepared to show how I am wrong. It is, of course, a possibility that I am wrong about Buz getting it.
I'll wait until you do show me. As for non biased. It is necessary to protect most of the forum from individuals like Buz who will not "get it" and will consume inordinate amounts of time. If that is a bias you don't like at least you know it is there. ABECivility: I did not call Buz names. I simply stated a fact. It isn't doing him a favor to pretend that he can handle the subject he has injected himself into. Pretending he is a theoretical physicist isn't helping anyone. In fact, not "getting it" isn't something to be ashamed of. This is tough conceptual stuff. However, being so utterly arrogant to think you know better than individuals who actually do "get it" is something to be ashamed of. Edited by AdminNosy, : No reason given.

Perhaps it's good for the physicists and savvy on the cosmos to be confronted by the laity with logical things like this.
Some have admitted that my POV on this topic would make sense to the man/woman on the street, some of who are watching. Perhaps as well, this is a good read so as for the street folk to have an advocate in here taking the heat for them and evaluate whether some of what they think can be defended. I'm beginning to see why we're not getting some substantive answers to my arguments.
You've been given substantive answers, you're just too blinded by your arrogance to notice. DrJones writes: You've been given substantive answers, you're just too blinded by your arrogance to notice. So then since you appear to be aware of the answers I've received, what is the property of space, which allows for it to be curved? Surely I must have missed where that was answered and you could apprise me of the answer since you apparently have read the answer somewhere in this thread. BUZSAW B 4 U 2 C Y BUZ SAW. Curvature is a property of space. What you're asking is akin to "what is the property of a square that allows it to have 4 sides of equal length at right angles to each other".

My understanding is that Eddington's 1919 observation was curvature of light rays and not space perse. If the light ray were merely responding to Newtonian gravity (the light ray bending) the deviation from the expected location of the source would be half the size of of the effect caused by the space between being warped (the light ray not bending). Therefore, the two can be distinguished. Curved space won: Light takes the shortest, straightest time-space path, which in a gravitational field is not the same shape as away from the gravitational field. One must be bent. You pick. AbE:Some have admitted that my POV on this topic would make sense to the man/woman on the street I'll admit that, but making sense to the laity isn't much of a standard, Buz. Thanks for the heads up, Doc. I've clarified message 61 in a response to PaulK.

quote: You are going to have to put in a lot of explanation before that question becomes something more than an excuse for rejecting GR. Why would space even need "properties that allow it to be curved" ? What sort of properties allow it to be flat ?Amd if space cannot curve why is GR, which states that it does, so successful ? quote:And under the hypothesis we are considering a straight line in our three-dimensional space does come around and join at its ends. If your bar is straight why doesn't it follow a straight line ? I keep asking and you either don't reply or babble bullshit which obviously has no bearing on the question.

Buz, are you saying that Einstein and the last 100 year's worth of phsyicists are wrong? Yes or no?
