Why can't FEMA fly in supplies and drop them off to them? The crisis doesn't appear to be handled very well.
I live pretty far away and have considered going there with a buddy and a boat and supplies to help out, but not so sure about getting there from the JAX area.

Why can't FEMA fly in supplies and drop them off to them? Maybe because Bush has been busy phasing out FEMA in favor of an as-yet-nonexistent divison of the Dept. of Homeland Security.

God destroys New Orleans because of annual homosexual party event's excessive sinning. (Repent America | Hurricane Katrina)

quote: The Repent America scum don't waste much time, do they? I wonder if they beat Pat Robertson to the punch...though he may be feeling a bit gun shy just now, after the Chavez gaffe. I guess Florida keeps getting hit by hurricanes as punishment for all the hanky-panky in the retirement homes. Amusing to see from their news releases (click the Legal Proceedings item on the left of their site) that they got caught up in the NYC police sweeps of protestors during the Republican convention...a match made in heaven if ever I saw one. If God is all powerful, and hurricanes are his weapon of choice against gays, how come he hasn't hit San Fran with a hurricane?
Don't give me that, earthquakes here, hurricanes there crap. He's the almighty, he should be able to do a hurricane in the middle of Africa if he wants to

If God is all powerful, and hurricanes are his weapon of choice against gays, how come he hasn't hit San Fran with a hurricane? Or, you know, someplace where really evil things are happening? How come God hasn't expressed his displeasure with, oh, say, the genocide in the Sudan? I guess God hates black people? Hell, there's about 3-6 countries in Europe that allow gay marriage. Some states in the US won't even let them adopt, and we're supposed to believe that we're the ones God is pissed at? Not only is it stupid, and insulting, and hateful, and everything else that the right-thinking people here are lining up to say, it doesn't even make any internal sense. If God hates fags, as the Rev. Fred Phelps would have us believe, how come the hurricane hit the gay-hating American south (aka Jesusland) and not one of the myriad queer-loving countries of Europe, where they really let all that stuff hang out? (Anti-homosexual slurs used in jest, of course.)

There was a well-known prophet who prophesied a year ago in Baton Rouge about the "winds and water" from the south that would change New Orleans, have people lying on their faces crying out to God, but it seems the evil most preached against was false leadership in the Church, not homosexuality. The word though is interesting because in context it is a word of great hope and blessing that would come from this. It's not so much mentioned as a judgement of God, though in one sense it is because it states how it would bring change and holiness, but is really about an awakening, especially in the African-American churches and community in Louisiana and that part of country.
He repeatedly warned in the word to prepare "The WIND and WATER will rise in the midst of New Orleans. Many from the south will come north for refuge. Prepare. Prepare now for winds and water that will surprise you.....Prepare! Prepare! Prepare! Shift! Saul will be no more. David will arise from this day forward. The wind from the south will begin to blow. Watch for the effects. This will purify the land and bring great change." I can see how some might scoff at this and think it's vague, but for those with ears to hear, sometimes great things can come from terrible beginnings.

Some are suggesting that once a storm reaches Cat 5 near land, the storm surge is on, even if the storm weakens later. In other words, Miss. got a Cat 5 storm surge and a Cat 4 storm. Looks like from damage done a 25 ft surge. That's what did all the killing--not the wind.

good one here questioning Bush's response
Opinion | Waiting for a Leader - The New York Times And Brooks makes some insightful comments as usual.
We'd like to think that the stories of hurricanes and floods are always stories of people rallying together to give aid and comfort. And, indeed, each of America's great floods has prompted a popular response both generous and inspiring. But floods are also civic examinations. Amid all the stories that recur with every disaster - tales of sudden death and miraculous survival, the displacement and the disease - there is also the testing. Civic arrangements work or they fail. Leaders are found worthy or wanting. What's happening in New Orleans and Mississippi today is a human tragedy. But take a close look at the people you see wandering, devastated, around New Orleans: they are predominantly black and poor. The political disturbances are still to come. Houston is becoming a major refugee camp, and there is a little spill- over of lawlessness. All these people are trying to get into the Astrodome who are not supposed to go, according to the "rules." Supposed to be only for the people from the Superdome.

Yea, He can and does, but that doesn't mean you aren't inviting other forces into your life.

I've been saying New Orleans was in trouble for ten years! It doesn't take a psychic to see that a coastal city below sea-level in the middle of the Hurricane Freeway is going be taken down by "Wind and Water" That's like predicting that Los Angeles will feel God MOVE THE EARTH benieth them. Now, if he had said this about DEnver and been right, I'd be impressed

It does seem to be badly handled but it's hard to be sure. I hope someone explains it soon. I'm sure supplies are on the way, just because the country is concerned and donating to the cause.
