Re: Emoticons
Emoticons and smilies have zero literary value. They usualy appear as pimples on the face of an already blemished writing. They are the corn dogs of modern web literature, evolving from the covers of Pee-Chees in junior high school to express what nobody needs to or should consume. What if Edgar Allen Poe or Wm Shakespeare had to rely on emoticons to get their literary points across?:
...quoth the raven, 'Nevermore'.
or
...to be or not to be, that is the question.
Emotocons are like junk DNA...

Re: Emoticons
Ringo writes:
...it's better to use a smilie to indicate that you're joking than to have people think you're just an idiot.
Paraphrasing an old proverb:
It’s better to keep your emoticons private and let people think you’re an idiot than to make them public and remove all doubt.

Re: Emoticons
And for those of us who tend to be a tad forceful, the emoticons signal to our friends that our words are meant to bite their heads off only figuratively.

Emoticons & erections
emoticons : literature :: saltpeter : sex
You mean, they have no effect whatsoever?
Not if your pre-condition already amounts to the same effect.

I'm not sure I take your meaning. You wouldn't be hitting below the belt, would you?
Yeah, it was a groin shot. Sorry, but you hung 'em out there. Take a knee.

Question for people of consciousness
I've returned to this forum after several weeks of absence and discovered it has been taken over by the bicameral mindsets”those who hear godly voices and obey them. Topics are being proposed and discussed that have nothing to do with either natural evolution or religious creationism. Sunday-school topics now seem to prevail. When we have to endure another discussion about the meaning of the Book of John you can be sure that the Voice of God is demanding another hearing. Good grief!
Question: Where have all the people of consciousness gone? Have they fled the pews for higher ground?
