"Since 1942, the NAE has never had a moral, ethical or financial scandal of any sort. Thus, this is very painful," Cizik said. "I believe that our record of speaking and acting in conformity with biblical values will be upheld."
What is it with these people? He would more accurately have said "Since 1942, the NAE has never had a moral, ethical or financial scandal of any sort.... come to light"
The expectation that a Christian is somehow magically rendered unable to sin is the realm only of a tiny minority view that holds to Christians obtaining "sinless perfection"
A Christian turns (I suspect) out to be a sinner. Big deal...

thing is, iano, that these are the same people who presume to be morally superior to everyone who doesn't share their religious views.
Thing is, oh prettiest one, we all hold up a front behind which we hide our stuff. Simple test: Someone offers you a button to press, If your press it then every thought you have and every deed you do (including motivation) will be broadcast on exactly the same medium that this guys deeds (and the thoughts that presumably went with them) have been broadcast. For as long as you press the button.
Ya gotta ask yourself the question. "Do I press the button?" Well do you punk...? And if so, for how long.
We all hold ourselves up to be something other than we are. You, me everybody. Everybody...
What's the most shameful thing you have ever done/thought in your life Schraf?

I bought cocaine once. I didn't inhale or swallow. I looked - and thought better of it.
Not saying it happened here. But it happens.

Word in your ear sis. Quit the confessions otherwise folk will get to thinking the reason why we cried out to God was because we were in desparate need.
ps: ever try mushrooms?

still sometimes it trips me up
An unfortuate turn of phrase.
But I know what you mean. Drugs and a propensity for violence where two of the things which evaporated in my case. But there is a shed load of other stuff I wouldn't mind being rid of.

LSD in another form more or less. And free between august-october in Ireland. Golf courses are good places to ..er..trip across them. I'd start on the first hole of golf hitting about 1 over par. By the 18th hole I'd be 10 over par. It's hard to play golf with a club that looks for all the world like its made of rubber...

Very similar - although it was others who saw faces and the like (usually under not nice circumstances). If you went wild on them then it was la-la land like you say. Like someone took a blowtorch to the world and melted it.
I preferred it softer - it meant we could go out for a pint. And I mean a pint. You'd sit in the pub nursing one pint for the whole evening looking at all the melted faces go by.

strange, odd, or completely false sensations, perceptions, and conclusions. It does that, all by itself, every day.
All the more reason not to trust it or that of any other person. It would be like asking a fellow LSD taker "Is that melted face real" If he says yes (maaan) then you have empirical proof. If he doesn't then it doesn't mean it isn't (or is...oh: you get the point)

Thing is, oh prettiest one, we all hold up a front behind which we hide our stuff.
Sure.
Now that we have that established.
But I don't try to make everybody else abide by a moral code, under force of law.
We must suppose that there can be no lawmakers given that everyone hides stuff behind a front. The only lawmakers we can have are those who do not:
- speed in their vehicles
- drink and drive
- hit their wives/husbands
- take meth/coke/herion/hash/lsd/mushroom/crack/drink
- shoplift
- default on mortgages
- dodge their taxes
- pour thinners down the sink
etc.etc.etc...
...you see the extent of the problem when it comes to recruiting lawmakers don't you.
No ones perfect. The fact that a lawyer might know his client killed the guy doesn't mean his job is not to defend the guy as best he can. Try and differentiate between job and man will ya.
By the way: the most shameful thing that you have ever done in your life? What was that?

The personal testimony of any single person is not testable evidence.
No its not. But Faith and me and millions of others testify. The testimony of millions doesn't count either I take it.
They testify you are blind. But the blind testify they are not.
On and on it goes...

And the moment the Christian Right wingers start treating others like they realize this, I will stop criticizing them
You've got google right. You follow a party line right. Find me a lawmaker who admits to meth/coke/child molesting prior to him/her going about establishing laws
A person can know (and legislate against) a wrong whilst engaging in the wrong themselves. Who doesn't see something awful inside themselves that they see the need for legislation against - even if it means legislating against their own behaviour
I voted for a Republican once.
You and I know that that is not the most shameful thing you have done. C'mon Schraf... fess up.
The thing that you are most ashamed of.

Re: Drugs
What people find insuperable, as well as they should, is the people who place themselves on a holier-than-though totem, all the while engaging in the very sins they denounce.
Do you find it insuperable? For if you do...
Earlier you correctly saw the root of all sin as pride. You denounce pride here. Do you engage in it yourself (ie: do you sin)?
