If your god's so big, so loving, so all-knowing and so powerful why, exactly, didn't he stop 1 and save you the whole mess in the first place?
Because this is earth, not heaven.
Usually #1 is the fault of the user anyway.
This is life, just look around you to see whats going on. People look for answers such as yourself, then go to a church, but unfortunaly the devil has his hooks in the church as well, and the men there are corrupt too.
You don't need a church to have a personal relationship with God, just as important as the Pope's.

That is so awesome!
You know, things used to happen to me mechanically (I fix all my own stuff too) and I would say to myself, why does this always happen to me? Why do I have to get the tough breaks all the time. It seemed like there was more bad luck than good. This continued into my HVAC business that I own. Even though I had dedicated myself to the Lord, I wasn't really following him yet. I even dedicated my business to the Lord, and was trying to run it as best I could in his name, but I was still missing the point.
Then last Feburary, I recieved a baptism of the Holy Spirit, that led me to repentance. I got great joy from repenting, were as before I did not really want to do it. I was now filled with the Holy Spirit on a daily basis. He is my guide, my light, my path, in the name of Jesus.
Things go much better for me now, and I am amazed at how many times I have just the right part, or exactly enough elbows or whatever to complete a job, and get paid.
Also when a customer gives me a hard time, I do not argue with them. I pray to God to handle the fight between him and the devil. In 4 years, I have had not one single person stiff me.
I also used to think I was cursed. Every July, for the last 14 years, every single thing mechanical I own (which is a lot) would break down. It didn't happen this year. Yep I prayed about it.
Now I still ask myself why does this always happen to me, but I have an answer.

So, if you had a small child and they inflicted some harm upon themselves, would you then just watch on the basis that it was their fault?

I have 5 children, of course not.
But I do not see the point you are trying to relate to me, what does that have to do with what I said?

This might be the time to ressurect my old prayer/drugs/meditation thread. But I don't know where it is.
Any admins know?

Layers of crap
Just a thought for all those who wish to hear God.
This world has piled layer upon layer of deception and deciet on top of you. If I had to show a visual to you, it would be like the Bugs Bunny episode where there was a dogpile on the rabbit. It's up to you to dig yourself out. The good news is that Jesus, and God, are right there holding out their hands to pull you from the mess. Once you get all that stuff off you, you will sparkle like a cyrstal that just came out of the dishwasher with aromatic jet dry on it (lol). You will feel this way down to every last molecule in your body. You will know with all your heart that it is true. Then the truth will set you free.
Most of us don't even know we aren't free and I can prove it.

And that makes a difference how, exactly?

I do, that's why I'm an atheist.

In any case, you failed to answer my point. If god is going to intervene on the basis of prayer, why not do a better job of it? He must have already intervened in the past to provide the 'solution' to buz's problem - why didn't he actually stop the problem happening in the first place rather than messing everyone around?

Actually, didn't Gil say that he would be interested in prayer claims if they didn't look exactly like random chance?

I'd like some orange soda.
Does this mean God is working through Schraf to tell me I want orange soda?
It's good to know he's got the time to do that.

You said that #1 was the users fault. Then Contra asked if you would watch a small child hurt themselves beause it was their fault.
He was comparing God's relationship to us with your relationship with a small child.
To God, we are like small children. To blame us for #1 is like blaming a small child for #1.

They only look like random chance from an objective standpoint - yet prayer studies have also reported above random chance - which is what you don't tell us!
So - a believer isn't so foolish to say - "God - despite this fascinating healing - some dudeguyette said you're random chance - and I don't want her to think me irrational".
But Shraff - in real life - if you come across truth - such rationalisations become irrationalisations in the moment it is happening in.
HAH!

Maybe he didn't pray for it?
To pray, and get the things you wish, you have to be right with God.
Your requests must also be to show his glory. So praying for a winning lotto ticket is out.
In my life, I try my hardest to do everything the way God would have me do it. I think that is why he answers my prayers more now than before. I do acknolwedge that it is for his glory, I "witness".
