Re: Is God Good? & MAINSTREAM BASIC BIBLE CHRISTIANITY
There are always evil people trying to undermine the true faith and often getting away with it.
No, no, no. What they're going for is calamity.
The greek word that's underlying their true thoughts is better rooted in calamity. You see, there's reasons to believe that the Protestants have this huge conspiracy going where they're tricking the underminers into thinking their calamity is actually evil. It because of their secret underground leader (read: Satan)who hates that evil is being sidelined to calamity. There's actually Protestants who have admitted that they're secretly working for Satan to trick people into thinking that calamity is really plain old evil. I have some sources for that, I'll have to dig them up later.

Re: King James Bible
More assertions I see.
The KJV did not irritate the RCC as much as some of the earlier English language Bibles and that was its primary purpose.

Re: King James Bible
Isn't it time you made your own bible, Faith?
I know you have your own dictionary, but it would save you an awful lot of time if you just made up a version of the bible that you totally agreed with, then you could be right all the time.

Re: Is God Good? & MAINSTREAM BASIC BIBLE CHRISTIANITY
You agree with Calvin, then, that God is the mastermind behind every crime, the Fuehrer behind every genocide, the secret spirit that engorges the penis of every rapist, the hidden hand that throttles each murder victim, and the voice of the serpent in the garden? --- that none of these things would happen without him positively willing and decreeing that they should occur?
I do not know whether Calvin said such at thing or whether you interpret it as to naturlly follow from whatever he did actually say, but just in general, if men do not repent from the way they think, the deeds will naturally follow.
I mean, if the person who plays wity fire doesn't actually light up something that is criminal, or if he gives vent to his the libidina passions and ends up commiting sex crimes, it all seems reasonably to have been predictable and te ends preordained in that sense, doesn't it????l

Re: King James Bible
Things are a lot more convoluted than you have any idea. You will also now find the RC claiming that they had a hand in the King James translation. Ha ha ha. They'll take any position necessary if it will confuse things.
The Protestants think that aliens flew into the writer's fingertips and used their little spaceships to control the fingers of the authors so that everything would appear to be more complicated than it has to be. Once the Protestant Pope enables all his mind-contolling software, everyone will be so blinded by the complexity that they'll just have to run straight for the churches to make sense of everything. Then Jesus will come riding in on the Adam and Eve's pet velociraptor and it'll garble up all the dirty Catlickers and the Protestants will win the greatest Truth or Dare contest in the enitre Universe.

Re: King James Bible
The stated purposes James I & VI outlined in his writings. He was faced with a political problem, a history of wars and conflicts between the Protestants and Roman Catholics and alternating State Religions and so wanted to tone the shit down and to institutionalize the Divine Right of Kings.
James I & VI promoted the Middle Way as well as the Divine Right of Kings as laid out in the 1611 Preface to the King James Authorized Version of the Bible.

If you truly believe as you project in these threads, then you would know that evil people can not undermine a true faith and get away with it.
They merely let they're own piousness cannibalize their brethren.

I do not know whether Calvin said such at thing ...
Well, see the quotations. There's not much wiggle room there.
If men do not repent from the way they think, the deeds will naturally follow.
But according to Calvin, the deeds supernaturally follow, they happen only because God willed it to be so.

THE Church
I guess I should know better by now than to give such a short answer to anything here but there IS only one church. THE church is made up of all true believers in the world now and back to Adam and Eve and up to the end of time. It's the whole collection of believers, all those who believe, all those who believe the gospel of Jesus Christ and are saved, also called "the communion of saints".
So when I say the Bible issues I brought up are an "important controversy in the church" I'm talking about some people I recognize as Christians who follow and discuss the issues in question about the Bible and Church history etc..
I recognize the true church even here at EvC in the other true believers no matter what denomination they belong to or what differences in theology they hold apart from the gospel. Since I don't know exactly what all they believe I can only go by impressions but I'd include Mike the Wiz, Chuck 77, Iano, jaywill, Buz, foreveryoung, Buz, TrueCreation and others I've no doubt forgotten even though they might disagree with me on some of these points.
I was trying to find Luther's statements about this online. His views are well described in the book "Papal Power" by Henry Hudson in Chapter 4 titled Luther's Revolt from Papal Power, but this Lutheran blog's description will do:
Concordia | The Lutheran Confessions: Church as Congregation: Luther's Focus, the Pope's Realization
For Luther and for the Lutheran Church first and foremost the Church "is, namely, the holy believers and lambs who hear the voice of their Shepherd." SA III, XII:2 This is in perfect accord with the Apology's assertion: "at its core, it [the Church] is a fellowship of faith and the Holy Spirit in hearts."
This can include true believers within the Roman Church as well.

Re: THE Church
It IS the Church Catholic which is not the same thing as the RCC institution.
