the fact that it was a rant doesn't mean I think it's not true.
I know. But adding
rant
served to highlight 'ranting' assertion - which tends to attract more forgiving comment than 'plain' assertion - which attracts a more rigorous demand for evidence.

I don't disagree with the sentiment of what you say mook. It can be frustrating. But from my position I expect it to be that way so it makes it bearable for me (John 15:18 is the bread and water of a web evangelist). There are some who really push the boat out and whose goal it is to snipe and undermine and frustrate and absorb energy. It seems to be a sport for them whereas the majority are here for honest-as-can-be reasons
But you don't have to engage them. They are easy to spot. Check out the post history for suspected snipers and you'll inevitably see that its always one or two liners and always intended to prise the lid open on a facet of us all: pride. We want to be taken seriously, yet see someone who manages to duck under Mod radar and dig in the ribs. Pride gets us into responding to try to 'win'
And so we lose...
It depends on how dear you hold your views. In the measure that you do then take the hits. You have a view and the hits just help you to keeps the arms tucked into the side. But don't let them consume you
(if you feel like it you can always poach them: they do come out to play now and then and their inexperience usually leaves them wide open )

Re: The not so brights....
Do Christians come across THAT tight arsed? Maybe I should blow hte dust off "iano's testimony - the Gorey Details" one of these days.
I'm reminded of those Tommies stewing in the muddy trenches of Christmas 1914. "Hey NaziNed..fancy a game of football?..."
BBC NEWS | Special Report | 1998 | 10/98 | World War I | The Christmas truce
quote:
In the Crimean War British, French and Russians at quiet times also gathered around the same fire, smoking and drinking. In the American Civil War Yankees and Rebels traded tobacco, coffee and newspapers, fished peacefully on opposite sides of the same stream and even collected wild blackberries together. Similar stories are told of the Boer War, in which on one occasion, during a conference of commanders, the rank and file of both sides engaged in a friendly game of football.
It would make you cry...

And then there's these snide references to their degrees from "world-class" universities (woo!).
Your kidding me! Someone would actually point to the university they went to, to bolster their argument (or damage yours)?
I would have taken it as a sign of desperation myself - lowly polytechnic educant that I am

That's part of it. The other part is when I make a dent in THEIR argument, they never answer it. They just ignore it.
As far as I can tell no one has been declared a victor in a debate here. I have also never seen a person concede defeat in a debate. Those silences along the way (assuming they are not oversights and misunderstandings - but have been expressly pressed at by you and dodged by them) can be taken to be what they seem to signify - the biggest concession towards your position that you can expect.
You and they truly know the cause of the silence. The point will have struck home, acknowledged or otherwise. That can be enough.

The issue of whether or not there is a God is a large and serious question
It's is the biggest question of all, the answer to which has more ramifications for every man, woman and child who ever lived. Which is perhaps why it is the topic which is discussed the most here.
Teens laugh and giggle when their science teacher gets to the part in the book where human reproduction is covered (Page 56/57 when we all giggled). Contempt is but an 'adult' way of hiding ones innermosts

My polytechnics simply told me how to be an engineer. "Who(else)" at the end of Romans 7 is the end of snobbery. Snobbery is a reliance and pride in 'me'. A person pointing to a 'top grade' education isn't pointing to the place - they are pointing to them being able for that place. Able to achieve what that place tests them on. Snobbery always points to 'me'
Always 'me' until it becomes 'him'

Your right of course. I suppose Robin was talking about those who do not go silent from frustration but those who dodge and weave and ignore the question asked and pretend that the question has been answered.
We all must respect (if we can) those who seem to undergo the pain we all feel when our point just isn't seen. I see that in you. I saw it in Larni this morning. I see it in many others. And I take no offence in that because I know they struggle just as I do
Its when the person evades and dodges and blatantly evades. That frustrates and insults. It sucks the life out of you. It seems to stem from evil. For patent we-don't-comprehend-each-other-but-we-try is something that anyone can forgive

Why don't you volunteer to be a moderator so you can start to make things better around this place if you think it's so crappy?
Also, I wonder...if you think this place is so bad and you never get any responses to your questions, why is it that you have over three and a half thousand posts?
What, you've started that many topics and nobody replied?
I'm sure Robin didn't come looking for a shoulder to cry on. Lucky for him!

No, they've been saying that I'm stupid and I don't have degrees from world-class institutions. Also my tone is wrong; I make too many definite statements. And then they throw in a lot of sci-fi babble which is supposed to be impressive.
