the heart of man is desperately wicked
Mine has a lot of mileage, and a little bit of cholesterol buildup, but it ain't desperate or wicked - it's a pump.
You don't normally give a driving test to someone who's never seen a car before: that would be setting them up to fail. The Genesis story has YHWH or Elohim or someone giving a "choose good or evil" test to people from whom he has DELIBERATELY WITHHELD the knowledge of what good and evil even are.
When you reflect on it a minute or two, it's amazing that such a lame story would even get included in an allegedly Important Book at all.....

Re: Would you be loved
As Christians we are simply giving you what is written in the Bible. We believe it, and at present you do not.
You haven't read this thread yet, huh?

Re: God lied?
Studies have been done at the moment of death and they have shown that the soul IS present in a body and at death the body is a few ounces lighter.
I beg your pardon?
Some Holy Roman Emporor (Frederick Barbarossa??) did that experiment back before 1400 or so, and saw no difference in weight. Do you have a reference to something more recent? If you have a credible source for this, I will cheerfully swim to South Korea wearing a suit of chain-mail armor and buy you a drink.

Souls have mass? How many ounces, Theo?

According to Dr. Duncan McDougall, the soul weighs between 1/4 and 3/4 of an ounce.
Dr Mc Dougall published this work where?

As for your happiness, BE HONEST! YOU may be happy for a time but you know inside yoouare empty or struggling with the Holy Spirit.
With all due respect, this is unadulterated bullshit. You have no idea whatever what struggles Yaro, or I, or anyone else here that you've never met are having or not having. I, personally, have a lot more issues with the Tooth Fairy than with the Holy Spirit - she gypped me out of a dime one time.
Please don't tell other people what they "know inside."

Be sure to wear a name tag so I can recognise you among the hoardes being cast into the Lake of Fire.
Hmmm. This might mean you won't be at the Beach Party With Ham and Pineapple Pizza in the Sky when Her Holiness, the Invisible Pink Unicorn (PBUHHH!), calls us all home. You might even end up in the Place Where They Get Mashed Turnips and Lukewarm Water instead. Better wear your nametag, too, Theo.

Her Holiness the Invisible Pink Unicorn (PBUHHH!) has a website, which is much more with the times than some parchment. You may even email Her actual prophets, and sometimes even get an answer. And I know that She must exist, as I didn't see Her just yesterday evening.
Are you calling me a pig? I did attend the University of Arkansas, and their graduates are affectionately known as the Hogs.....
Cultured or natural pearls?

Someone reads too much bible.
And/or goes to too many Sunday morning indoctrinations. Her Horniness the Invisible Pink Unicorn created the entire universe last Tuesday morning, with all appearances of great age, including your and my memories, and your and my holy texts. I defy you to prove me wrong.
Do you have any idea, Theo, how bad mashed turnips and lukewarm water start to taste after a few millenia?

I've never talked to Homer but I'm sure he used places that were in existence in his sotries just as Stephen King and John Grisham do today.
And I seriously doubt that you've ever talked to Moses, Paul, or John, or to the anonymous authors that wrote the books attributed to them, either. I'm sure that Gibeon and the valley of Ajalon are just as real as the plains of Troy, but what is there about the book of Joshua that makes the story of the Sun and Moon standing still in those places any more believable than Ares appearing at Troy? Shiprock really is still there, west of Farmington, New Mexico. Is it any less believable that it was once a huge bird than that JHWH created the universe in six days?
I think not.
Edit to add, after seeing your last post: Theo, if it was my vulgarity the other day that bothered you, I apologize, and I'll restrain myself in the future.

Jack Chick has the tract at his website.
Please don't bring up Jack Chick. It will make me lapse into much worse than vulgarity.
The Lady Hope story is, according to the creationist website Answers in Genesis, a fabrication.

Posting quotes and all such is in the "UBB quick ref" tab under "Forums Help" at the top of any page. {qs}quote{/qs}, but using square brackets instead of curly ones, is easiest.

As for it being a bird, that's a BIG bird AND a BIG story.
And "stopping the sun" is a BIG story and a BIG violation of the conservation of angular momentum and several other laws of physics. What makes one less believable than the other?

Since God made the sun is He not able to stop it? He parted the Red Sea, made a giant fish swallow Jonah, set a bush on fire but kept it from burning up. The list goes on and on. You can't use science to explain the Bible.
Nor to explain the stories in the Illiad or those of the Najavo. Prescientific myths like these three only touch on reality in symbolic ways: they don't recount "history."

Great point. Let's talk about that law.
Would you like to open a thread in the Cosmology forum to do so? We're wandering a little off topic over here.
