It should be pointed out that an earlier generation of Asian immigrants was also relegated to menial labour, mostly on the railroads. Who's to say that a century from now the Hispanic people won't be stereotyped as "good at math"? Asians and math is another racial stereotype. The 1965 immigration act made preferences for professionals. The influx of asians since then have been educated people that want educated children. And who's to say that black people won't be stereotyped as loving salad? These "characteristics" are all social and historical, not inherently "racial". Life is like a Hot Wheels car. There may be two sides to the coin but you only answered the one I didn't ask. Here it is again: Would you rather hire a plumber who looks for a problem or one who doesn't?

I am a plumber. Would you hire a plumber who can't see a problem or one who goes and looks to see if there is a problem? There is two sides to that coin. Plenty of mechanics out there who find problems when there is none, and charge you for it. Those are the dishonest ones, like some people here. I want the honest plumber, who knows what he is doing, and only finds problems when one actually exists. Then fixes it for the right price. riVeRraT writes:
Newsflash! There's nothing wrong with riVeRraT. He's perfect in every way. As I read through this thread, I am examining myself, and I find nothing wrong, I'm doing the best I can with what I've got. I've already said in this thread that I'm a bigot. I try to be less bigoted. I couldn't do that if I thought I was perfect. Life is like a Hot Wheels car. There you go again, Mr. Perfect. I did answer it, and I answered it perfectly. If your answer was so good, you could have just repeated it. That would make me look like a fool instead of you. You know, I've had misunderstandings with people too, sometimes right on this forum. You know how I handle them? If somebody tells me, "You said X, Y and Z and that offends me," I don't tell them that they're wrong and that they have no right to be offended. I don't tell them I'm not a bigot. I try to figure out why I might seem to be a bigot. I tell them that I didn't mean to offend anybody and I try to figure out exactly what wording it was that caused offense. Then I rephrase what I said in another way to try to get my meaning across without causing misunderstanding or offense. That procedure should fall under "all I really need to know I learned in kindergarten". It's pretty embarassing that a grown man doesn't understand it. Bullshit. Your standard response is, "I already answered that." Nobody should ever have to ask you where your answer is.

been there done that too Then I rephrase what I said in another way to try to get my meaning across without causing misunderstanding or offense. riVeRraT writes:
Rinse and repeat. The process is never finished. Your mistake is in thinking that ANYTHING you do is ever perfect. so what is left after I explore all the options that I can find, trying to find fault within myself? Life is like a Hot Wheels car. What part of "nobody" did you misunderstand?
ringo writes:
As of late, with certain people only. DBlevins and I in the UFO thread just had a conversation where I reexplained myself for him, and he got it. Your standard response is, "I already answered that." Nobody should ever have to ask you where your answer is. riVeRraT writes:
It isn't your business to decide whether somebody else is sincere. You were blaming everybody but yourself at the beginning of the thread and you don't seem to have learned much. I would if certain people were sincere, and actually just weren't getting it, but that is not the case sometimes. Life is like a Hot Wheels car. I've read them and it's pretty clear what you're saying. People who think you're a racist are wrong and you're right. I repeat, you've learned nothing and it seems pretty clear that you're determined to learn nothing. You'll never know why people think you're a racist. Yes, it is my business to determine who is being sincere when they are calling me a racist. I did not blame everybody, maybe you should go back and read the first couple lines of post #1. That's true. If you're determined to learn nothing, you'll probably succeed. ringo writes:
Then I will never know why most people don't think I am a racist. You'll never know why people think you're a racist. You're doing it the hard way, though. You really don't have to start new topics to learn nothing. Life is like a Hot Wheels car. Sometimes it goes behind the couch and you can't find it.

I don't think I've called you a racist. Feel free to take your own advice and point out where I have. Even you, have not given me one single reason why I would be considered a racist, or given me a single quote from any of my posts why I would be considered a racist. I've called myself a bigot because I'm willing to admit that and try to improve myself. All I've tried to do in this thread is help you understand why some people might think you're a racist. You're welcome. Life is like a Hot Wheels car. Sometimes it goes behind the couch and you can't find it.

Quoted for irony. Of course the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem, but that is not the problem here. Life is like a Hot Wheels car. Sometimes it goes behind the couch and you can't find it.
