As I get it, they are doing the persecuting, killing Christians daily around the world as a matter of fact, and Jews as well, when they can get to them with their strapped-on bombs. And Hindus as well. Believe me there are plenty of Muslim that feel persecuted. To make this more relevent how about the ultra-fundamentalist of the “God Hates Fags” troupe Fred Phelps - Wikipedia Or Hovind and his legal problems ... or the White Purity - Christian Identity. They just believe in the white race and do not condone violence. They are persecuted for their beliefs. David Koresh felt persecuted as did Jim Jones. So relish in the persecution you are in some good company. Persecution is not some indicator that your faith is right on.
They're still working on killing more "Christian" Americans too. I don't suppose it would be of any use to review history of the crusades or inquisitions lead by people absolutely sure in the position with God would be of any use. Aslo the violent mulsims use the same arguements you use about the absolute purity of the book and scriptures written centuries ago.
The Pharisees attacked Jesus because He claimed to be God. And Jesus attacked them for their 'rightness' in beliefs. BTW you didn't answer the question. I ask again...
iceage writes: The Pharisees attacked Jesus because he would not stone the women as the "scriptures" required. No offence Faith but if you were there and raised with a strict Jewish background, which side would you be on with your cocksure worldview. Myself? I am not sure..... I RECOGNIZE that we share a common understanding that makes us members of the Bible-believing Christian fraternity.
You can be Bible believing, without believing that everything in the Bible is the word of God. Maybe some Israelis did horrible things, and credited those to God in order to absolve their own consciences. And perhaps that is what was recorded in parts of the old testament. That's very consistent with typical human behavior, so why would you suppose that is not what happened?

Yes, I suppose if I'd been raised as a Pharisee, and God had not granted me the grace to recognize who Jesus was, then I'd have believed as the Pharisees believed. What does it accomplish to state this? The same is true if I'd been raised as a Muslim or a Hindu or whatever. What's the point?
God DID grant the grace to MANY of the Jews in Jesus' time, as He has granted it to me, now an ex-atheist, to know that Jesus was the long-promised Messiah, the Son of God, God incarnate. God also grants that grace to Muslims and Hindus and atheists and etc. Jesus upbraided the Pharisees for their man-derived traditions which they had put in the place of God's Law, not for any "rightness" but for wrongness. I'm not talking about "feeling" persecuted when I point out that the Muslims are DOING the vast majority of the ACTUAL persecuting -- killing -- in the world today. I don't defend the Inquisition at all, since I reject Catholicism, and since it was a complete violation of the spirit of Christ which persecuted the proto Protestants as well as everybody else. And I only defend the Crusades to the extent of pointing out that they were provoked by Muslim aggression, although they went on to commit their own atrocities.

That's very consistent with typical human behavior, so why would you suppose that is not what happened? I wouldn't "suppose" anything, I came to believe that the whole Bible was inspired by God, and I've found over the years that it lives up to that billing and only increases in its revelatory power, and that all those who treat it as inspired by God receive this same kind of understanding, that is closed to those who insist on manhandling it with their fallen intellect. I asked him to name one atheist who doesn't concede that God of the Bible can exist and on what basis they do this . He never said. Sorry, I got off before you replied. But, it appears there are quite a few in this thread alone. Chiroptera, sidelined, and a few others.

I'm with you about the tilde.
It has a yinyang aspect to it that merits further consideration. Edited by Archer Opterix, : Face. Archer All species are transitional.

The tilde is all yin and no yang. The umlaut gives me a creepy feeling. Whenever I read some German I feel very selfconscious for the next several days, like someone is staring at me. Life on earth is hell.

If we could figure out a way to cross the umlaut and the tilde, we'd have something very close to the yin and yang. Think about that one!
Of course, as the creos here would no doubt advise us, since the tilde and the umlaut are different kinds, there can be no combining of the two. Alas. Those who would sacrifice an essential liberty for a temporary security will lose both, and deserve neither. -- Benjamin Franklin

Interesting.
Would you include in that kind the various combinations that cartoonists frequently use to indicate cursing; i.e. @*&%@!, &^%(*&^%^$, and the ever popular $&^#$)((&^$%? Those who would sacrifice an essential liberty for a temporary security will lose both, and deserve neither. -- Benjamin Franklin

Certainly the Kind Punctuation has spawned the whole branch of cartooniana.
