Is there a reason we should allow open bigotry in our public marketplace?

Is there a reason we should allow open bigotry in our public marketplace? You agree then that all bigots should be discouraged?

Interesting how powerful a bit of definitional magic can be. Instead of allowing our views as freedom of religion, call it bigotry and instead of respecting our Constitutional rights you can persecute us righteously. Interesting how that works.

Instead of allowing our views as freedom of religion, call it bigotry and instead of respecting our Constitutional rights you can persecute us righteously. Your freedom of religion is safe here, Faith. Practice all you want in your churches, homes and bible clubs. Your "Constitutional Rights", however, stop where you single out a group of people and trample on their rights out of religious malice. Don't like gay marriage? Don't marry a gay. Don't like blacks? Don't allow them membership in your church. But when either walks into your store you are required by law to treat each as you would any other customer. Can't bring yourself to do that? Shut and lock the door, permanently.

In addition to the points made by Paul, you're also free to protest against gluttony and sloth. You can organise picket lines to try to persuade people not to shop or work on the Sabbath. You can draw up petitions against anyone who covets his neighbour's ass (I'm pretty safe on that one - neither of my neighbours' asses is anything special). You can, as a Christian community, collectively refuse to use banks and participate in usury. You can write pamphlets encouraging a strict adherence to biblical dietary requirements.
You can do all of these things, as well as peacefully protest against gay peoples' rights. But you won't, will you ?Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ? |

Faith writes: The maid's conscience hasn't been engaged requiring her to participate in gay marriage so no, she's not participating by making the bed. I freely confess, Faith, that the theoretical subtleties of an engaged Christian conscience are beyond my intellectual powers. Fortunately, I have a long record of Christian actions to guide me.
I would think this would be obvious but I guess I don't know how to think like an unbeliever any more. Indeed."If you can keep your head while those around you are losing theirs, you can collect a lot of heads."

Faith writes: . . . there is no end to the ways people try to discredit God, but there simply is no way to honestly get that idea out of the Bible. I'm with you 100% Faith, it's impossible to HONESTLY discredit god or the bible . . . I was just telling your exact sentiment to my slave the other day when I was beating him, his wife, and children. (Wow, was there ever loud wailing and blood.) But I was real careful to stay within god's loving guidelines, . . . nobody died DIRECTLY or QUICKLY from the beatings. And why would anybody even care? As godly morally pronounced (see below), slaves are just property, so what's the big deal?
quote: The typical, ordinary, every-day, hum-drum beating of a slave to its eventual death simply isn't comparable to the very mortal and hell-bound sin of decorating a cake for a homosexual couple. Non-christians will never get this Faith, why waste our breaths?

Is there some good reason why you are unwilling to answer my question? (Trap set. Will he stick his foot in it?) Oh, well... ...you are a smart puppy with sharp teeth and I see you setting your trap. I may have fallen off a melon truck but it wasn't recently. So sharpen up those canines and answer this:

Is there some good reason why you are unwilling to answer my question? Nobody seems set to nibble on that dead bird you've left in view with the snare set around it. Perhaps it is time to spring your silly trap and clean up the bait before it starts to smell. ABE: Okay. I'll answer the question. If I were 16, I don't think that I would shun the cute good looking bigot who was coming onto me just because it turned out that she did not like worshipers of Islam. That's especially so if she had those NoNukes catchin' hazel brown eyes I cannot seem to resist. (Yeah, Mrs. NoNukes has them...) My question relates to bigots, and the inconsistent designation thereof.
If you are going to oppose bigots, it would be consistent to oppose all of them, not just some. Can you folks agree with that?Religious belief does not constitute scientific evidence, nor does it convey scientific knowledge. Belief gets in the way of learning--Robert A. If you are going to oppose bigots, it would be consistent to oppose all of them, not just some. That depends on the specifics. If the bigots are in The International Church Of the Holy Bigoted Brethren then, though I may oppose their philosophy, I have no standing to lodge any kind of effective opposition, like maybe not join their church? Yeah, that'l hurt 'em. But, open bigotry in the marketplace is something different. There I can directly protest with my wallet, pickets and, if I'm the target of their ire, lawsuits. Your snare hasn't caught me so you have broadened the trap area in hopes that someone will drop. You have something specific in mind that you do not want to just bring open, you want to spring it on us. Ok, I'm game. You're going to try and bite me someplace where I'd rather not be bitten but, coming from you, this may actually be enlightening and fun. Hey, Coyote?
The sooner we run the bigots out the better off our markets will be.
Does this apply to all bigots? Yes.

Coyote writes: Can you folks agree with that? Sure, but we'll probably all differ on who is a bigot. So what? Most American bigots think they're the good guys, martyrs for some racial or religious lunacy or another... Do you think you can refute my worldview or political philosophy with one uncensured bigot?
