The 5 minute beer analogy doesn't even begin to come close to what would be considered prophecy by definition.
It would help you understand our objections if you were to elucidate the definition of prophecy, and how you feel Dan's example doesn't qualify.

It was a serious question, Buz.
You may think Dan is poking fun, and he is, but he has a real point. What is to be considered "prophecy"? All statements about the future? If I predict something that any reasonable person can see is likely to be the case, such as "unrest in the Middle East; Pope denounces violence" is that to be taken as prophecy?
I can see that these are questions you don't want to wrestle with. What I can't understand is why you persist in your juvenile views on prophecy given that Greek philosophers understood these fundamental difficulties about 3000 years ago.
How will you recognize prophecy if you don't even know what it is?

If you still deny the validity of this prophecy, I suggest you attempt a little experiment. Roam your home city and neighboring cities for 3 years and draw a crowd of devoted followers(that are willing to submit their entire lives to your cause). Do it with no generating income, humble clothing, and limited supplies. Does common sense indicate that your words will last 2000 years, and make disciples of billions?
Why don't I attempt what actually happened - do nothing, but then have a group of elect individuals write a book and make up stories about what I did to consolidate their hold on the ignorant masses? L. Ron Hubbard found out that's a great way to make a million dollars, after all. And Scientology shows no signs of going away.

I see you don't understand the meaning of a prophecy either.
Well, you're hardly any help. After all I've only asked you to define "prophecy" twice, with no response.

So, what you're saying is that if somebody predicts something, and then somebody else who knows about that prediction makes it happen, that's not prophecy? I mean, that seems reasonable to me. It's not prophecy if somebody just makes it happen in order to make the prophet right.
