This isn't something recognizable like "hoof beats" ringo, it's utterly inexplicable on any normal analogy.

That could also be true of course, but the extreme phenomena some have described here is beyond mental illness into something demonic. The first cause of demon possession is sin, that's what gives them "permission" to enter a person. There are demons of particular sins so they can keep driving a person more and more into those same sins and more extreme versions of them.

Doctors will only explain things as far as their theories go, and if they reject the idea of demons that isn't going to be a possibility in their minds. The voices being talked about here are not coming from the person's mouth but their body and there are lots of them, indicating the presence of more than one demon.Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

But you are assuming it's mental illness so you have no idea really "what mental illness can do" or whether some other factor is at work.

Demons are very well known, just not to you. And they love to make you all think they don't exist too, they make up all kinds of weirdly plausible explanations to explain themselves away.

A whole room full of people "speaking in tongues" does not have Tourette's Syndrome or anything of the sort. Your supposedly better explanations are simply not. However, I also have suspected that Tourette's may be demonic in origin because of how it comes over a person suddenly, causes jerky physical movements, and is typified by profanities and blasphemies. Nevertheless it has nothing in common with speaking in tongues.

You haven't given even one "better" explanation. The phenomena we are talking about are well explained by demon possession.

I keep talking about this book I will probably get, written by a man who discovered these things over many years and finally learned how to deal with them. Christians encounter demons because Jesus defeated them at the cross and they get all upset when you confront them with that information and try to get them to leave people they've been occupying. Unbelievers aren't too likely to encounter them because they don't believe in Jesus.There's also no point in casting demons out of an unbeliever because it is trust in Jesus that protects a person from their returning.I do wonder, however, what would happen if you tried to quote some relevant scripture to a severely "mentally disturbed" person or many such people. Any demons that happen to be present might react or they might lie low knowing you aren't really a believer, I'm not sure. Might be worth the experiment though. I suspect you guys are scared to death of the idea that demons might be real. Boy would that turn your worldview upside down. The phenomena we are discussing are so clearly better explained by demons than mental illness it takes an effort, and not a very convincing effort either, to deny it.

And gullibility embraces mental illness as an explanation too, because of the heavy indoctrination against demon possession.

Yeah I really just wanted to hear Phat's story but of course I have to deal with all this too unfortunately. Just what he and I both have said on this so far is good enough reason to take us seriously but the bias is so entrenched that isn't going to happen.Demons are invisible and if they don't want to be found out all they have to do is stay silent. But people all over the world have known about demons, it's just that "modern science" has become a reason they lie low and pretend not to exist.Demons are intelligent beings. Phat did hear their voices in his friend's body, so did the man I've been talking about. Sometimes they possess a person's vocal organs and speak through them that way, but sometimes there are voices just coming out of a person's body from where the spirit beings have set up residence.

Not making up excuses, explaining why intelligent beings would be hard to detect. They are obliged to answer to the authority of Jesus Christ but not obliged to answer to unbelievers.I've encountered demonic phenomena in other forms, just not a possessed person. My physical condition is such that I'm not going to be visiting any mental hospitals.

I may actually have a demon or some demons. That's a common result of experience in the occult, which I was involved in during the years I was reading my way to belief in Christ. There is nobody in my life who believes in these things, though, at least no one who could help me find out and deal with them. I may get this book I keep mentioning -- have to wait to have the money, running behind this month -- and it may have clear enough instructions for me to test out all this myself. I keep worrying about your friend Jason though, wish he'd had those demons cast out, sometime if not at that time.I once heard a demonic voice that sounded like those chipmunks. Funny they sound like that. But I heard another that sounded like a deep voice echoing inside a metal barrel. Both of them made me laugh.
