Oh my God, I'm an Atheist !!

firstly i think its a near impossible task to imaging , for real , ones last momnet .. we spend all our live concentrating on living and avoiding death , its hard then to take a realistic view ....i would hope i was thinking of those i leave behind , and that i am not the cause of to much distress ...what is even harder is to put oneself in your world view .. where a god exsists and we have the standard christian religion ... if we are not followers of that faith ...Also you put the view that atheists are active in their non belief .. however all the ones i know simple ignore , rather that preach , in the same way they ignore , nordic , greek , aztec religions.... the athesit only debate when a beliver confrounts them ..i feel that anyone who "finds" god , or is "found" by god on a deathbed is not a athiest but a agnostiic , and has already considerd "god" as a saftey net ...

question ..you say in the OP this is directed towards atheists .. why ... why not to anyone who does not belive in you version of god ?
(yes i know you say any can answer but you focus on atheists )if as you state the worship of the xian god is inbuilt , then why not ask those who follow different religions if they would call on the "err correct" version . after all technically they are athiests of the xian religion .or is it the non belif asspect of the atheist you are exploring , trying to see if there is a belief on /off switch( yes sorry a crude term for something so major) ...and (ok maybe its unfair to ask this , and is not intented to take us off-topic) you put a disclaimer saying firstly do you think there is blame attached to atheistium in any way .. and if so who is to blame .....maybe the atheists could sue the church for failing to convert/enlighten them ??

As a aside , and not going off topic (i hope and entend), i think the topic has shown that the OP was a valid question ,the atheists and xians are almost the same , they are use identical method s to attack the other view , both take the stand point that they hold the irrevocable truth on the nature of the universe , and others use their alternative to cloak hidden attitudes. in fact with the editting of the odd word you could not tell if its xian or athiest who is being intolerent , oppressive and being a bigot ...Please , no offence , cos i know we are all guilty ..thus Riverrat's OP clearly has value in that he is asking a group who act much like xian's if they will experience a change to their present faith ...MY WORDSNOTE as no one has proven the non exsistance of god / gods atheisum is a belief not a fact ..(ooh am i going to get some stick now )it is so very interesting that the athesit react so strongly to this questioning of their faith .. 99.999..% the exact same way xians react when theirs is questioned .
Both then drag bout the canons of their faiths and so we get to the mud slinging that soon its hard to tell one from another .so what does this tell us .. we are all frightlingly similar , and even at the point of death most hold their "faith" so strong that they will not entertain a different view .. this seems to counter Riverrats opinion that we will turn to god at the end ...guess that answers the OP .....unless of course god put all the atheists there to test the belivers and see if they are string in their faith or will follow the latest fasion ..... na god would not be so sneaky would she ...?

and there you hit the problem , by following a religious code it is not being a bigot , where every view they spout is the correct view , because they have faith , its the classic problem you cant just belive in the bits you like you have to take the whole package .
if the holy book say all lefthanded people are evil then thats the way the world is , you get no choice , you make a commitment to the code ..... this is the danger of faith in its may forms .. it breeds absolute certainty .. one of the most dangerous things in this world .. as if free us from questioning ...and then we are back with the them and us .. the rabid atheists destroying all the religion-ists to save us from the wrong way of thinking ...opss no shouldnt that be the otherway round ...mean while back to the OP .. i wonder do xians think of god in the last moments of life .. or do they assume that they have done all that they can .. and think .now where did i leave that will ??
