I agree. Open Borders gives no respect whatever to American citizens.

You're looking at it backwards. The immigrants aren't subtracting from the overall situation; they're adding to it. Strengthening your economy through immigration will only be good for the domestic population. This is my prerequisite for immigration---that the domestic aging population is taken care of first. And our geese will blot out the sun.

Faith writes: Fraid I'm not. There are hybrid forms of socialism that are less totalitarian but the tendency of socialism is always toward totalitarian oppression in the hands of government. Again, there is widespread support for socialist programs in the US, even among Republicans. If Republicans campaigned on a platform of doing away with Medicare and public education they would lose a lot of elections.
But as John Adams and others of the Founders said in various ways, our system of government can only work well for a religious and moral people, "it is wholly inadequate for the governing of any other." Well, we've been losing our character as a "religious and moral people" for quite some time now, well beyond the point where such freedoms can be safely granted and the corporate federation still hold together, so we've become ripe for totalitarian oppression, of which socialism is a form. I will take non-religious and moral over religious and immoral any day.

Public education is not socialism. Public works are not socialism. Socialism is not the support of infrastructure or any institution available to all. Socialism is the taking from some to give to others.

So you're all for giving the continent back to the Indians? Or turning it over to Mexico?

Socialism is the taking from some to give to others. That is a truly stupid statement. Public Schools are funded by taking money and giving it to others. Public works are funded by taking money and giving it to others. Both involve taking money to give benefits to others socially. Only a totally ignorant or utterly dishonest person would claim that public schools, public highways, public police protection, public fire departments, public street lights, social security, medicare, medicaid, public sewers and storm drains are not socialism.

Public education is not socialism. Interesting. I thought you despised public education. Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Thoreau: Civil Disobedience (1846) "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door! We got a thousand points of light for the homeless man. We've got a kinder, gentler, machine gun hand. Neil Young, Rockin' in the Free World. Worrying about the "browning of America" is not racism. -- Faith I hate you all, you hate me -- Faith No it is based on math I studied in sixth grade, just plain old addition, substraction and multiplication. -- ICANT

Interesting. I thought you despised public education. I despite a lot of what has been done with it in recent years but I don't despise the principle.

No, socialism redistributes wealth, taking from some to give to others. Even where it seems to be designed to benefit all it takes from the richer to give to the poorer. That is not the case with public works.

Even where it seems to be designed to benefit all it takes from the richer to give to the poorer. Isn't that the case for all things that are paid for with federal tax dollars? Roads, bridges, Medicare? Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Thoreau: Civil Disobedience (1846) "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. No, roads and bridges are public works that benefit all of us collectively. Medicare is a complicated form of socialism that selectively benefits individuals.
