I can add some diagnostic code that will affect only you. It will cause several alerts to appear when you click on a button (that's a button, as opposed to a link). Then you can post back to me what the alerts say. Will that be okay?

Okay, first click refresh or reload, then try to go through the process for a general reply, including a preview. You should see 4 alerts when you click on the Preview or Submit button, labeled A through D. Let me know what each says. You might not get as far as D if something is wrong.

No, if it worked I know what they said.
I'm going to take the diagnostics back out, hold on a sec...

Okay, click refresh or reload, then try another general post and lets see if it still works.

Yep, you're right. Probably wrong argument passed to a routine, should be an easy fix, might even get to it tonight.

I've researched the HTML email issue, and what I've discovered is a bit disappointing. Some of the more popular email tools, like gmail and hotmail, pay no attention to in-line CSS style sheets. There's nothing I can do about that.
Outlook does the best job of rendering HTML that I've found so far. Email notifications now include a copy of the message, and in Outlook it looks pretty much like the original. In other email tools? Meh! I don't have Thunderbird, someone please let me know how well it does. The "Email This Thread" link that appears on message pages also now uses HTML email. Let me know what you think. If enough people complain I'll go back to something less ambitious that will display correctly in even the worst email tools.

Yep, bad argument in a routine call, this should be okay now. Let me know if you still see a problem.

I just discovered a private messaging bug. It is already fixed.
If you sent anyone a *new* PM after June 2 then it did not get through. New PM's late in the day on June 2 probably didn't get through, either. If you thought someone was ignoring you, they weren't. They never got your message. Replies and forwards were not affected. The bug only affected *new* PM messages. I apologize for causing this problem. The software for EvC has gotten big, and I try to test as much as I can before posting an update, but things slip through anyway.

Hi Dwise1,
Thanks for reporting the problem. Others also reported it via email, and I was able to find and fix it a few minutes ago. Evidently I introduced a bug affecting Internet Explorer and Safari earlier this morning. Could you go back to IE and verify it's fixed? Thanks! I've had a good day if I'm measured on the number of bugs introduced. Hopefully the number of bugs fixed now equals the number added.

I forgot to mention, you have to click "refresh" or "reload" first. I released a new version of Javascript, and most browsers don't reload it when going from page to page. Does that do it?

Hi Taz!
Thanks for reporting this bug. It should be fixed now. The swap link was intended to only be visible for members with linked accounts. Here at EvC we link the normal and admin accounts of moderators so that they can more easily carry out their moderator responsibilities. For instance, when a member with linked accounts posts a message, there's a pair of radio buttons for them to select from so they can select which account the message should be from. Similar thing on the profile page. I wanted to do this for private messaging, too, but ran out time, but it'll get there eventually.

I hear and obey, but not right away.
I have to make the page work with the new ability to acknowledge that you've seen a message. This means the page has to be redesigned and I'm not sure when I'll get to it. Impacting the schedule is I'm just now recovered from a sports injury that kept me sidelined the past month, and the return to activity reduces my spare time. If I were to guess I'd say it could happen within a couple months. If only I didn't need to keep my day job... Please keep reminding me, especially the week of July 4th which I have off.

In a few minutes I'll be releasing some code that cleans up a large number of niggling minor stuff. I am going to keep the board open during this period, but until I complete some adjustments to the database the board might appear to be broken or severely dysfunctional. Please bear with me, it shouldn't take long.

Larni writes: Do I remember rightly that there used to be red, amber, green, topic traffic bars? It was a horizontal bar representing activity level. As the bar became longer with increasing activity levels the color would change from green to yellow to orange and eventually to red. Yes, it will be returning. The folder color indications are insufficient. Sorry, I can't provide a schedule.
