Re: Great point!
Heres a list of things made up by Catholicism:
Praying to Saints, people, Mary
Purgatory
The Rising of Mary to heaven (with her body)
Whatever there are probably more.
You've gone that far, why not all the way?
I did.

Re: Great point!
You gave a short list of things Catholicism made up. Why not go all the way and see that they made the whole religion up?

We are not talking about shakespeare we are talking about the credibility of "God's Book".
Shakespeare wrote some deep insights into the human condition that were very spiritual.
Our revels now are ended. These our actors,
As I foretold you, were all spirits and
Are melted into air, into thin air:
And, like the baseless fabric of this vision,
The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Ye all which it inherit, shall dissolve
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff
As dreams are made on, and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep.
The Tempest Act 4 scene 1
The Bible, like the Koran, the Vedas, the Tao te Ching, is a book about God or the Source of the universe. The quality of the insights are those of the human authors of these books and subject to human error as are all books.

Lucifer a man?
O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stares of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High. Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the lowest depths of the pit. Those who see you will gaze at you, and consider you, saying; is this the man who made the earth tremble,
Sounds like Isaiah is refering to a man, most likely a monarch of one of the great kingdoms of his time who he disliked.

Re: For Mike-the-wiz
Jar,
It struck me that Mike was preaching a sermon and calling for you to repent of your heresy and profess the party line, or I forget what it's called, anyway the correct view.

Re: Nonsense.
In fact, if every single tale in the Old Testament were to be shown to be no more than tales told around the campfire, would it change the message?
Jar,
The problem in regards to Jesus is that the Gospels, particularly Matthew put great importance on the prophecies from the OT. Those prophecies don't fit Jesus but they shoe horned them in and so that would cause problems for at least fundamentalist that the Gospels authors were so loose with the OT.

The message to others will not be believed as "GOOD" if they think that the bible is unreliable.
So, are you saying that even though for example the world wide flood has been disproved, it must be claimed to be fact so that potential converts will believe the message of love in the Bible is "GOOD"?
I think there are much better and more persuasive arguments for love than the inerrancy of the Bible, particularly because the Bible is transparently errant, and it requires an act of faith to disregard the evidence and believe all the stories of the Bible to have occurred.
