Re: There isn't any proof Jesus ever existed
Well there was a thread challenging Almeyda on the issue of prophecies fulfilled by Jesus. When it came to producing a significant prophecy which it could be shown that Jesus had fulfilled he offered....nothing. Not one. So, it seems that the answer is no - there isn't anything of significance.

Re: a little bit of interesting news Lam
Probably you didn't hear anything more because your sources didn't want to report what happened. The owner of the ossuary is under investigation for forging artifacts, and the inscription on the ossuary has been declared a fake.

Re: a little bit of interesting news Lam
I don't thnk that you can completely discount the Bible as evidence that there was a historical Jesus of some sort. While the Gospels are obviously biased - in the same way that an official Scientology biography of L. Ron. Hubbard would be biased - there aren't good reasons to assume that they are complete fictions. (There are people who try to argue this - but it is something that does need ot be argued).
On the other hand it is true that if you do discount the Bible there is less evidence for Jesus than for other historical figures (even Socrates) - many of whom left written works and/or archaeological evidence (Julius Caesar, for instance, left both). But then Jesus himself did not have a great impact on the world, and if we allow that the Gospels may exaggerate the lack of a contemporary record is understandable.

I guess you didn't read my reply to your message.
The tests are over. They concluded that the inscription was a fake.

Yes, a literally unbelievable story.
I find it far more plausible that when Jesus failed a hard core of followers did not drop away. They adapted their beliefs and invented the whole idea of the Second Comning so that Jesus could try again. Probably they had some sort of experience that convinced them Jesus was not dead - but such experiences are not that rare. And how many people have "seen" Elvis since he died ?

What possible reason did Jehovah's Witnesses have for staying with their sect when their prophecies failed ? It's happened more than once.

The number of copies is a test for accuracy of transmission - not for the accuracy of the original text.
Caesar's Gallic Wars was written by a participant in those wars, during the campaign.
The Gospels were written decades after the event by unknown people. None can be definitely identified as being present at the events they describe (for some events we know that they were not). We can be sure that at most one - more likely none - of the authors of the Synoptic Gospels was present.
Given those facts there is good reason to trust the Gallic Wars over the Gospels.
