Are you unaware of what the "us" refers to, or protesting it?

The Protestant Reformation was about political power. Now ringo, don't be guilty of thinking about this in only 1 dimension. The Reformation came about because of a complex mix of reasons; some of the spiritual, some political, some social, some natural consequences of humanism that began taking shape in Europe a couple hundred years earlier. Spirituality DID play a major role in the Reformation. It is just not a simple set of reasons. Much like all major world events such as WWI, WWII, the Renaissance, etc. HBDWhoever calls me ignorant shares my own opinion. Sorrowfully and tacitly I recognize my ignorance, when I consider how much I lack of what my mind in its craving for knowledge is sighing for... I console myself with the consideration that this belongs to our common nature. - Francesco Petrarca "Nothing is easier than to persuade people who want to be persuaded and already believe." - another Petrarca gem. Ignorance is a most formidable opponent rivaled only by arrogance; but when the two join forces, one is all but invincible.

It depends on the period. Early Hebrew/Judaism was polytheistic; Yahweh was there local god but there were many other gods. Often gods were attached to a place and ineffective on some other gods territory. A great example is found in 2 Kings. It's the story of Naaman, a Syrian who had leprosy is cured by following the instructions of Elisha. Once cured he asked to take some soil back with him so he could worship Elisha's god.
2 Kings 5 writes: 17 And Naaman said, Shall there not then, I pray thee, be given to thy servant two mules' burden of earth? for thy servant will henceforth offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice unto other gods, but unto the Lord. 18 In this thing the Lord pardon thy servant, that when my master goeth into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leaneth on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon: when I bow down myself in the house of Rimmon, the Lord pardon thy servant in this thing. So there is an acknowledgement that even worshiping other gods is acceptable and that Yahweh was the God of Israel and Judah and attached to the soil of that area.Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

jar writes: So there is an acknowledgement that even worshiping other gods is acceptable and that Yahweh was the God of Israel and Judah and attached to the soil of that area It's not quite that simple though. It's kind of an, umm, contradiction...again.
Thou shalt have none other gods before me. Deuteronomy 5:7 Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;(For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you.) Deuteronomy 6:14-15 So there's that. Then there are a number of places saying there is but one god. So another contradiction. Complicated stuff :-))))

Those are not at all contradictory.
Read them again. They talk about the God of a people. Neither of those says that there is only one god. For most of the Old Testament the idea of multiple gods is accepted. Of course the Israelites were sure their god had the biggest dick of them all. What is said in most of the Old Testament is that the Hebrews should not have any other gods. There's really no problem.
And God said, let us make man in our image. Genesis 1:26 Since God is here identifying Himself in the "us" this can only refer to the Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, all of them God, three Persons all of whom are the one God. All the other gods referred to in the Bible are created beings, fallen angels or demons:
Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods. Exodus 18:11 Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? Exodus 15:11 Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;(For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you.) Deuteronomy 6:14-15 Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord. Psalm 86:8 I just don't know how many there are that's all. All these references are to the many demon gods, how many could be billions, all the angels that fell with Lucifer, or it could be a select number that took the role of "gods" among people.

And one god:
The LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else. Deuteronomy 4:39 I am God, and there is none else: I am God, and there is none like me. Isaiah 46:9 So I don't know how many there are. Edited by Golffly, : No reason given.

There is one God. One uncreated Being who created everything else.

Neither did the Hebrews. It depended on the era and tradition.

There is no "mention" of Trinity anywhere in the Bible, it's implied in many descriptions of God nevertheless, and I certainly didn't "make up" this understanding of the "us" in Genesis, it's included in every discussion of the Trinity. Same with the demons, I certainly didn't make that up either.
see Leviticus 17:7 And they shall no more offer their sacrifices unto devils, after whom they have gone a whoring. This shall be a statute for ever unto them throughout their generations. and Deuteronomy 32:17 They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not. faith writes: There is one God. One uncreated Being who created everything else. The bible talks about multi-gods on a number of occasions. To reconcile that, you or the cult, made up this demon god story. However, if you read the bible ( to quote jar), you'd see that isn't the case.
