'The evidence for design and a designer' thread.
27 posts since the first request for summaries, 8 since the "hey, one more post guys, srsly" message and the changing of the thread title. Multiple persons -- on both sides of the fence -- have given more than one summary, and the debate has started afresh. Please kill it.

Following up on Percey's comment:
Message 52 Some posters are just too pedantic. When an otherwise good discussion gets sidetracked into minutia of word definitions and semantics I suspect a lot of posters just give up. I know I do. Knock it off!

As if the content and location of its comment weren't enough of a giveaway, the lunatic must also have some form of OCD about the name (seriously, why put the Xs at start and finish? It's just.. uh). Obvious troll, indeed.

THREAD Atheist Appreciation of Biblical Wisdom and Inspiration
Admin, PD, with all due respect, imo, you are mothering the above thread to the extent of paranoia, in that it is progressing counter to your personal ideology. BUZSAW B 4 U 2 C Y BUZ SAW. The immeasurable present eternally extends the infinite past and infinitely consumes the eternal future.

Message 52
Hyroglyphx writes: jaywil writes: When I hear some people say that all the religions are the same often what they are saying is that no belief has any enfluence over thier lives. In that regard they are "all the same." Logically all things cannot be the same and remain coherent because they diametrically contradict one another. But taking certain passages and applying the wisdom in them, I think, is what he is referring to. Though message 52 does not have quoted verses in it, nevertheless, it addresses the thread topic. Note the phrases, applying the wisdom in them, coherent and influence over their lives, i.e. wisdom, coherentcy of text, and influencing one's life, (directly associated to wisdom and inspiration and aspects thereof) Could you consider easing off a bit and allowing a bit of leeway in favor of easing the tension, AdminPD? Dawn Bertot has hi-jacked this thread for his/her personal idiot box to spout anything creationist related. He/she had their own 600 some odd post thread to do what he/she is doing now in a thread where it isn't even close to the topic. Hi Buzsaw,
There seems to be some interest in discussing claims of impingements upon freedom of religion, and also in discussing the influence of Biblical wisdom on societies and cultures, but neither of these are the thread's topic. Phat suggested What Is A Christian (Remix) as an alternative thread, and I'm sure there are others. Or you could propose a new thread over at Proposed New Topics.

From the thread's OP:
To me it has primarily been a reference source rather than a book that I have read for it’s narrative or wisdom or inspiration. So.. Given that I am neither seeking nor likely to be converted, given that I accept the historical importance of the bible to Western civilisation and can appreciate the worth of understanding it in that context - How would those who consider the bible to be a source of wisdom and inspiration suggest that I, as a non-believer, appreciate the more inspirational and timeless wisdom aspects of it? Are there particular passages that I can be directed to as being of significant timeless wisdom and meaning? Are there particular parts that even a die hard atheist can point to as being inspirational and insightful? If those with more biblical knowledge than I were to try and pinpoint the parts of the bible that they think stand out as significant regardless of ones belief which parts would they direct me to? And why? The topic request isn't that difficult. If you want less tension, stay on topic.

Message 5 in Actual belief vs. belief in belief
Annn123 Rrhain Thank you for your submission to Science. Your paper was reviewed by a jury of seventh graders so that they could look for balance and to allow them to make up their own minds. We are sorry to say that they found your paper "bogus," specifically describing the section on the laboratory work "boring." We regret that we will be unable to publish your work at this time. Minds are like parachutes. Just because you've lost yours doesn't mean you can use mine. |
