This is because antibodies for the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 look very similar to antibodies that respond to coronaviruses that cause other illnesses, such as the common cold. Tests could mistakenly identify antibodies as being for the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, producing a false positive. Dweik said it will take more time to develop a test that can accurately detect the right antibodies. I kind of suspect that the phelobotomist at Roseland hospital knows her business well enough do avoid confusing other antibodies with Corona antibodies, or she'd at least mention the possibility if it was a problem. The "experts" on all aspects of this virus situation have been wrong so many times already why should you prefer their opinion on this subject? Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Trump has been following the experts that hve been wrong. They just keep changing their numbers. Other experts are criticizing them but nobody listens to the others.

I just heard an expert on the Mark Levin show but I tuned in too late to hear his name and although I kept listening it was never repeated. Strong German accent with something else mixed in. Epidemiologist and a few other credentials. Said big mistake to close the schools because children need to be exposed to develop immunity, that the people who should be protected are the elderly and others known to be vulnerable. It's only by healthy people being exposed that herd immunity will be developed and it's only by developing herd immunity that the vulnerable can rejoin society without danger. Made sense I thought. Levin was also talking about how the numbers of infections and deaths are terribly inflated, how other causes of death are often not distinguished from the virus, how people who need other kinds of medical attention aren't getting it because everything is dedicated to the virus..

All I know is that the phlebotomist in the story reported on the results of her blood samples.

There's no "plan" I merely described what this man said and he was very impressive, I wish I'd heard his name. He thinks the virus is essentially a flu, and the first thing he said was that the vulnerable people need to be protected so there's no idea of children going home to infect grandparents. I think the virus sounds more dangerous than the flu or some people seem to get a more dangerous form of it than others perhaps. And I didn't quote Levin about the other medical needs so you can drop the accusation of him. He didn't "conflate" anything, I merely made a general statement.
I did get the idea from various sources that California may very well have herd immunity because a great number of people got infected swith the virus starting last Fall, a mild version of it that came with a fever but was considered to be more like a cold. If so the sooner they can be tested for antibodies the better.

The question raised by the expert on the Levin show was whether it's a good thing for so many people to be avoiding getting the virus. certainly people with weakened immune systems and underlying health problems need to be protected, but the problem with everybody avoiding the virus is that we'll all be susceptible to it when we finally venture out of our caves. Herd immunity is really the best protection and we are preventing that by hiding out from it. Some people need to be protected and it's not that there is a really clear population that can be counted on to get only a mild case of it, but that needs to be the aim, that basically healthy people don't need the great degree of protection and if they get it they contribute to herd immunity.

It's not so much letting it spread as it is trying to keep it limited to people who aren't as vulernable to it so there wouldn't be all the deaths you are describing. That's the idea. Maybe it's not feasible. Maybe the virus is more lethal than this idea takes into account.

Well at least if they are true believers they get to go and be with Jesus.
But my bet is it's very few churches and probably those with a charismatic theology that are engaging in this foolish virus baiting. It's not that God can't protect us but you have to know that's His will in a particular case, you can't just assume it. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

It's true there are a lot of self-described Christians who don't really believe Christian doctrine these days. Surveys have to be careful to find out what is actually believed because people think they are Christians without believing anything Christian. Here's a survey reviewed in Christianity Today
LifeWay’s survey found that evangelical beliefs remain strongest in the South, where 23 percent of the population qualifies, compared to 15 percent in the Midwest and only 5 percent in the Northeast. Not many really, but more than two dozen. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

Maybe just because it's a drive-thu I assumed she took the samples but perhaps that was my mistake and she was only giving the results of the lab tests she ran.

I listen to MANY sources, not just one "host." And I hear many different opinions. Lately there are many emphasizing the down side of avoiding the virus altogether, which is that as soon as you relax the quarantine you do start getting more cases and more deaths.
Because you don't have herd immunity. This is going to happen WHENEVER you relax the quarantine. The need is to protect the most vulnerable. Nobody has suggested just reopening everything and exposing everybody, it's always about how to protect the most vulnerable. There is now strong reason to believe that California has herd immunity. My daughter and her family probably had the virus months ago and are now immune. Three of them may have had it twice. My son in law had a particularly bad case of it but only had it once. There are likely millions of people in that situation in California. The sooner they can test them the better so the state can reopen. It was reported a few months ago, December or so? that California was having an especially bad flu season. Some are now suspecting it was a combination of the flu and the COVID virus but since there was no testing there was no way to identify it at the time. So now tests for antibodies are needed. There are certainly some places that for whatever reason are more susceptible to this virus than others and they need a different kind of response than places that are less affected.Nobody wants ANY deaths, but every year we accept thousands of flu deaths as normal and this virus may not even be as lethal as the flu. We don't close up the country for flu. We also don't close it up for all the other reasons thousands of people die in this country every year. It's not at all clear that all the other causes of death are even being recognized in this COVID pandemic which has come to dominate everything. One result of all this emphasis on this virus is that we may take stronger measures to protect people from the flu in the future. That would be one good outcome. And since the malaria drug Hydroxychlorophine does have dramatic results in curing some people of this virus I hope it's being used in serious cases but I haven't seen information about this. Not that I would, I'm really not a hound for information even on this subject. I just hear or see whatever I happen to hear or see. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. We HAVE to return to normal but it's going to have to be done carefully and in stages and by location and other criteria.
And herd immunity cannot be created by quarantine, it is only created by exposure to the virus, and that's what seems to have been the case in California, many people having been sick with it without knowing it, perhaps millions. Antibody tests are crucial to find out.

Well I hope so but you might find out that with so many people in quarantine and not exposed to the virus that it comes back with a vengeance.

OK, if you can really avoid it to that extent maybe you'll be lucky. But I'm sure you know that some people can carry it without being symptomatic. Yes I suppose you could reinstate your quranttine then but won't you just continue to have this problem of silent carriers?
