Re: something to think about
I'm talking about the Moral Law, which is illustrated by many cases in the Torah, which is based on the Ten Commandments, all laws that are derived from those commandments.
The Ten Commandments say that you shall not worship idols. Our US Constitution says that you can worship idols if you please.
The Ten Commandments say that you shall not take the Lord's name in vain. Our US Constitution says that you have freedom of speech, which includes blasphemy.
The Ten Commandments say that you shall not worship any other gods other than the Abrahamic God. The US Consititution says that you can worship whatever god or gods you want.
Are you starting to see a disconnect here?

Re: something to think about
Two thousand years of preaching by the best preachers of Christendom says you're wrong.
1400 years of preaching by the best preachers of Islam say you're wrong to be a Christian. So?

Something more to think about
Or why "freedom of conscience" (so-called) should not be absolute:
A tragedy caused by religion

I didn't mean to imply that God's blessings on America or our Christian heritage were some kind of perfection, merely the overall picture. America hasn't always had a happy history after all. Many regarded the Civil War as God's judgment for slavery.

Yes, Tempe, being in a land with rich resources is God's blessing too. Keep in mind that it would be possible to live among such riches without knowing how to exploit them. Knowledge is also God's gift. There is no such thing as luck.

Re: something to think about
Allowing same-sex couples the same rights as any other couple is not repudiating God's laws. God administers His own laws. You don't.
He gave me the ability to read and understand His laws and how He administers them and the ability to tell you about them, not administer them myself. It's all in black and white; you can read it for yourself. Marriage is for a man with a woman, the sexes that were made so that their union could produce children. Sorry, but gays are a sorry pretense at the very least, and their claim to marriage is a violation of God's ordinance of marriage.
IF God chooses to judge homosexuals, that's His business, not yours.
Funny, then, that He told us to be salt and light, which means to inform people of His ways so that social corruption and darkness might be mitigated.
If He chooses to judge you for failure to love your neighbour, that's His business too.
I fail at that all the time and it is my business as well as His, as of course He wants it to be. But I have no fear whatever that I violate that command by doing what I can to inform people of His laws that condemn homosexual behavior and the idea of gay marriage and of the consequences that He has revealed to be the result of violations of His laws.

Re: something to think about
It is not uniting church with state to teach people about God's laws, especially in a country that was once Christian, in the hope of possibly keeping that country from falling deeper into God's wrath. The early church did not have a Christian environment so the comparison is bogus. Of course we are almost back to the same pagan situation unfortunately.

Re: something to think about
The entire world witnessed the growth of America's amazing prosperity and marveled at it. You need to learn some history. History IS in God's hands, all of it. Nothing happens by accident.

Re: something to think about
Those things were not the original intent of the Constitution, as many of our early court cases should inform you. But in general I agree that the Constitutional generation were traitors to the Christian heritage of this country.

Seventh Day Adventism is not Christianity, it's a cult.

Re: Something more to think about
I didn't mention Christianity. Neither did the Arizona bill we're supposedly discussing. So why did you bring up Christianity specifically ? Are you suggesting that "freedom of conscience" should only be permitted to those you consider "Christian" ?

Re: Something more to think about
Sorry, my mistake. Freedom of conscience ends where it causes harm to others. Basic principle.
And I mean harm. Not discomfort because you're told you are in violation of God's law, not being deprived of the "right" to violate God's law, not being deprived of any kind of right if you are the one at fault.
Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

Re: Something more to think about
I would say that pervasive bigotry is a great harm. Wouldn't you ?
In fact I'd call bigotry "social corruption and darkness".

Re: Something more to think about
Yes, like your bigotry and that of others I'm up against here. Definitely social corruption and darkness. Definitely.
