Re: Fyoungs posts of hate
have already acknowledged my own rage. That is why I am able to clearly see that same rage in many of your self righteous, pompous asses.

LOL nope, you just project your own rage out on others. i feel nothing worth "raging" about on the internet, the internet barely affects my life, because you know, i'm an adult, adults don't rage about stuff on the internet, if they really are adults.

there is a term for this, i can't remember what it is right now, but basically it is a psychological condition where you believe that your view points are shared by everyone, simply because you believe those things.

being angry about anything on the internet is a waste of time, we should be angry about REAL things, of course only within reason.

in conclusion you are simply wrong. you only perceive this "rage" from anyone else due to your belief that since you rage, everyone else must too.

Mormons, hindus, jews, you name it, atheists, can be described as having good behavior.

Whooh, certainly not the jews, right?

Re: Fyoungs posts of hate
Sorry to disappoint your fantasies DA. There is no projection going on here. I know how desperately you wish it were so. You assume it is projection because people always are blind to the own foibles until they are pointed out and accepted by them. You cannot see your own behavior because your every move is justified in your own self righteous mind. When you do that your whole life, you become blind to your own rotten behavior.

But, my dear foreveryoung, I am not blind to my own emotions. If I were consumed by rage, I should know about it. It is I suppose true that like everyone else, sometimes I don't know if I'm acting badly, or I make internal excuses for it --- but it is also true that like everyone else I know whether or not I'm feeling angry, just as I know whether I'm feeling pain or unhappiness. When I do feel angry, I suppose I may sometimes tell myself that my anger is justified, and I may sometimes be wrong about that, but I am not wrong about whether I am angry, that's a whole 'nother question.

You, on the other hand, are blind to my emotions, which take place in my brain and not yours; you therefore have both the means to deceive yourself about what my emotions are and a fairly obvious motive for doing so.

I think what you think you see inside others is actually coming from within yourself. If we're all in a rage then even the Peanuts comic in your daily paper is in a rage. I think we're all in sort of the shocked and dismayed state one feels when witnessing another human being self destruct.

Perhaps this is what you are thinking of?
quote:
In psychology, the false-consensus effect is a cognitive bias whereby a person tends to overestimate how much other people agree with him or her. There is a tendency for people to assume that their own opinions, beliefs, preferences, values and habits are 'normal' and that others also think the same way that they do. (Wiki)

Both Sides Are Guilty
Participants aren't necessarily trying to come to a mutual understanding.

The problem with the academic debate model is that it assumes that both "debaters" are fully rational, emotionally detached human beings that are trying to come to some sort of mutual understanding or settlement in the most efficient and correct way possible. I can count on one hand how many debates like that I've managed to be a part of; most people can safely set the count at precisely zero, since both sides have to cooperate and very few people are emotionally capable of detached debate at all. (Note that "emotionally detached" does not mean "not emotional"; I get emotional about many issues such as "abortion", but that does not mean that in the debate I let my emotions, such as anger at my opponent, frustration, etc., play out in the debate in the form of insults, slurs, intellectually dishonest accusations, etc. Not that I'm perfect but I do try.) The Metaphor Rant

The side that is offended or annoyed wants the other side banned or moderated.

A common assumption is that the more trivial a debate topic is the less passionate the debate will be. So, a debate about Presidential policy may lead to insults flying back and forth, but a discussion over teen literature will be tame and respectful. This is a logical belief. It is also horribly, horribly wrong. The topic of a debate has absolutely no bearing on the tone of it. If, for example, you feel that government run healthcare is a good thing, you will be called a communist; if you believe that The Backstreet Boys are a better band than N*Sync you will be called a communist child molesting faggot. No matter what you believe in at least one guy you encounter online will think you are the worst person to have ever existed. (My bold) Internet Debates

Those who enjoy the battle will continue to feed the "trolls".

On the Internet, rational and well thought out statements are scorned in favour of ridiculous hyperboles and personal attacks. Internet Debates

If you choose to feed the trolls or trollishness, don't whine when they don't appreciate the tidbits.

Re: Fyoungs posts of hate
being angry about anything on the internet is a waste of time, we should be angry about REAL things, of course only within reason.

One possibility is that that is exactly what's happening. He's a college student, apparently in his first year and apparently majoring in geology. I seem to recall that at first he made passing reference to people at school and having arguments with them. I'm sure that he feels that he's being attacked on all sides both with subject matter that he's very interested in learning but which not only fails to support his YEC beliefs but also reveals those beliefs to be false, and from the reaction of his fellow students to what seems to them to be full-blown-bozo, bat-shit-crazy beliefs. Obviously, he cannot lash out at them as he wants to, so he looked for surrogates that he can direct his rage at "safely" -- us.

So I suspect that it is the situation at school that's filling him with rage and that he's trying to use us as surrogates against whom to vent that rage. Unfortunately for him, all that does is to reinforce and fuel even more rage, rage which may boil over in his real life and get him into real-life trouble.

He needs to talk with a counselor about this. And there are Christian counselors who specialize in dealing with the Christian mind-set and I'm sure that they have had experience with his problems that I'm sure he thinks are uniquely his.

Re: Fyoungs posts of hate
the funniest double standard around here, is that people are allowed to "troll" you at will, because you are a christian creationist.

see what happens when you say something that causes rage in one of them. it is not what happens to them when they cause rage in you.

all the while they pretend to be intellectually honest, and un-bigoted. If you pay attention around here you can see the truth, and I think you do foreveryoung.

I know it is the attitudes of you guys here on this forum that drives the rage inside of me.

I used to be full of rage when I was a Christian. I'm not saying that Christianity causes rage. It might have been because I was young and foolish. I'm much older now.

I don't like the attitudes of people who disagree with me either but I find that the best way to drive them crazy is to stay cool. They hate that.

Keep in mind that AE's definition of "troll" is to say something he can't refute.
