No person named Tim will ever rise to any position of greatness.

The only question is: What's on the other side of the fence? Nothing overly special, but at least marginally better than the clowns on the Republican side? I mean really, we're talking about US politics here, a place where, according to Dr A, if you're named "Tim" you can never do anything significant in your life, but if you're named "Mitt" you can be President! Yes, I used to write my name as "Mit" when I was first learning to write. But seriously, we haven't had a good choice in a Presidential election in at least as long as I've been voting. The two major parties and the few 3rd party contenders able to get on a ballot all suck, just for somewhat different reasons. And the two majors are both solidly in the pocket of the wealthy; the difference is mainly that the Democrats will make at least a token attempt at representing and defending the lower- and middle-class while actual policy is largely decided by the oligarchs, while the Republicans gain their lower- and middle-class support through religious tribalism and let actual policy be directed by the oligarchs. Obama was the first time I felt like I was voting for someone instead of against the other guy, but he's turned out to be such a massive disappointment (yes, Dr A and others, I believe you told us so) that 2012 looks to be back to the same old business as usual: vote Obama so that Bachman\Palin\Romney*\Paul\whatever other nutbar doesn't get the big job. *Okay, so Romney at least isn't a nutbar in the way that those others are. But he's still a nutbar.

Jimmy and Timmy just raise up images of the respective South Park characters.
...who I submit could each do a better job in the Presidency and embarrass the nation to a lesser degree than Michelle Bachman or Sarah Palin.

I just wish the name came with the magic exploding powers. Cause it doesn't, and that sucks.

How is it that I continue to be surprised? I shouldn't be surprised. Crazy people will say and do crazy things, and it's well established that people who harp most about the Constitution are frequently the people who want to tear its protections to shreds the most.

Perhaps because the two from recent memory, Bush the Lesser and Clinton, left a bit to be desired?
I'd certainly rate Clinton above Bush, but Clinton bears a lot of responsibility for the mess we're in today. He just managed to achieve a budget surplus and didn't invade (or perpetuate an invasion of) any foreign nations. That last really shouldn't need to be mentioned on a list of accomplishments, but given the last decade it's become rather relevant.

I am disappoint.
I expected Bachmann's campaign to give comedy on a level similar to Sarah Palin. For a while it was there, but now all the focus is on Cain and Perry, and neither are as hilariously wrong as Bachmann. I mean, they're both still wrong, and often, but for some reason it's not as funny.

who's party is full of members opposing your views. If it makes you feel better, Buzz, I'm a lefty whose party usually opposes my views, too. I mean, even when the Democrats had both houses of Congress and the Presidency, we couldn't get universal single-payer health reform. We couldn't end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. We couldn't abolish the Bush-era tax cuts, we couldn't institute new, higher tax brackets for the wealthy, we couldn't fix the idiotic cap on Social Security contributions, we couldn't close Guantanamo Bay, we couldn't get rid of the USA PATRIOT Act, we couldn't get rid of DOMA, we couldn't reform the prison system, we couldn't re-establish the banking regulations that have protected us since the Great Depression and whose removal caused multiple major recessions including the current Great Recession, we couldn't establish universal social justice rather than different rules for the wealthy and politically connected, we couldn't start to repair the income gap, we couldn't improve employment conditions, we couldn't fix wages that have been stagnant for decades, we couldn't... You certainly didn't want just about any of that anyway, I'm certain, but "my party" (or the closest thing I have to one) has never actually supported my views. A couple individual representatives, maybe, sometimes, but the party as a whole is only marginally better than the Republicans for me. Ron Paul is interesting to me.
He mixes batshit crazy with some good ideas. Too bad about the batshit crazy part. The human understanding when it has once adopted an opinion (either as being the received opinion or as being agreeable to itself) draws all things else to support and agree with it. - Francis Bacon "There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. My fiance once worked with a woman who had graduated from a state University with a Bachelor's degree in Biology, and did not believe in evolution. She was, in fact, outraged that she was "forced to learn that crap."

The title of this article says it all.
But wait, there's more! quote: Truly, anyone can run for President. Even if you quote Pokemon movies and don't know that China has nuclear weapons and your life's accomplishment involves bad pizza.. As long as you have lots and lots and lots of money. And as long as we didn't find out recently that you're a womanizer who cheats on his wife. Doesn't matter if it's true or not, really, just how long it's been. If we found out a decade or two ago, you're fine. For porn, yes. You make me sad. If I had no idea who they were, I might be more attracted to them granted. But that level of stupidity is worse than a giant hairy mole set atop a gnarled beak of a nose above a mouth only half-full with twisted, chipped, blackened teeth. Covered in herpes. Aronra, Youtube user, outspoken Atheist, and creator of the Foundational Falsehoods of Creationism Youtube video series, reminds me that not all Texans are Rick Perry clones.

I saw this video posted on my FB feed by United Atheist Front. I sludged through the comments, all of which were by avowed atheists, and I was the only one who saw a problem with this. I tip my hat to you, Ron Paul, you have fooled a lot of people into thinking you are the only reasonable one left even while you spout religious nonsense. Moderately intelligent people don;t even need to know Ron Paul's whackaloon idiocy on Creationism to know he's a whackaloon idiot. His policy statements alone are far more than sufficient. The best I can say about Ron Paul is that he's very consistent in his insanity. But the man honestly thinks the federal government does not have the Constitutional authority to force the desegregation of schools, just for a start. He named his son after Ayn Rand for the love of all that's rational - and you can see in my sig what I think of that. He's very good for scary comedy, though, of the "did a Presidential candidate really say that?!" sort. Slightly less funny and slightly more scary than Bachman/Caribou Barbie, but only because for some reason he has this amazing talent for attracting both liberal and conservative folks alike with the couple of things that he says that aren't outright insane, presumably because his difference from "mainstream" candidates overcomes their apathy (and apparently their intellect). And then they "defend" his crazier statements by saying, and I shit you not, "As President he wouldn't have the authority to actually do that," as if we should vote for insane candidates simply because the office to which we would appoint them is not granted the authority to follow through on all of the insanity! Ron Paul is perhaps the most dangerous Republican candidate. Because while he may strive to free us from the military-industrial complex, and while he has some very good policies in regard to foreign nations (ie, stop assassinating people, treat other nations the way we want them to treat us, etc), his Presidency would be the most likely to finish what the Great Recession started. There are few candidates I have ever believed could actually pose a true existential threat to the existence of the United States, but Ron Paul is one.The human understanding when it has once adopted an opinion (either as being the received opinion or as being agreeable to itself) draws all things else to support and agree with it. - Francis Bacon "There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged.
