Gay Pool
So, anyone taking bets on which gay disaster is going to upset the Republican pool first?
Rick Perry gets officially outed with proof.
Marcus Bachmann gets caught on video doing something with one of Michelle's male staffers
I think it's pretty neck and neck at this point

Quite so. So what odds will you give me on Rick Perry getting caught with Marcus Bachmann?

Interesting.
Probably good odds since they are both husky boys. Have trouble seeing them together.
However, if they decide to have a joint "pray the gay away" session, all bets are off.

Re: Rick Perry, Hurrah
You're not?
No, I'm not. But it will suck me in. It always does.
There has always been mud and petty squabbles taking the limelight in politics, especially at this level of course, but there also used to be more discussion on real issues. These days it's more a spattering of issues buried under an avalanche of hatespeech and a media (including the partisan internet blogs and political forums) concentration on every gaff, stumble and innuendo whether real or not all dripping with bile and blood.
Is there really any doubt that in the coming festivities, instead of the economy and geopolitics, the discussion from the right will resurrect "birth certificate-gate" and "moslem-gate"? And from the left "religion-gate" and "st*pid-gate"? And from the main stream media "gay-gate" and "boxers v briefs-gate"?
Just a small example that got me started on this some time ago. Does anyone remember Carter's speech at West Point on Defense policy during his second campaign? On the advise of his media handlers he had re-parted his hair on the other side. For the next two weeks that's all the pundits talked about. Not a word on his defense stance.
And in my view this has only gotten more blatant and more mean-spirited and has now become downright spiteful and hateful, to the exclusion of all else, in the past few election cycles.
I'm an old political junkie. Shit is to be expected and expected often. But an exclusive diet of shit washed down with only bile and blood is becoming too much.

Is there a sane Republican candidate?

"Bachmann: Americans fear ‘the rise of the Soviet Union’"
Well, quite possibly many of them do. Also they think Saddam Hussein had WMDs, that Obama raised their taxes, that "death panels" exist, that Obama is a Kenyan Muslim ... in short, they're morons. And someone should speak for them.
What's almost as odd is that she's worried about the rise of ... India? Does she think it's full of ferocious Mohawk warriors or something? This is the nation of pacifist vegetarians that gave us Gandhi and long multiplication, what are they going to do to us exactly?

Re: Things Michele Bachmann Doesn't Know ...
That doesn't explain her segue into raving about the defense budget unless she's planning to bomb a few call centers.

She has yet to deny it......
In other news:
Rick Perry admits Texas schools teach creationism. and evolution is a "theory" with "gaps".
Will a local conservative (I'm calling you out Coyote) come to bat for their Presidential forerunners? Are these the morons YOU want running your country?

I pray to the non-existent God that she believes in that she wins the GOP nomination. Please let it be so.

A Real Race?
Any one ever hear of Jon Huntsman?
An interesting conservative. Not crazy religious but fiscally conservative. Not totally anti-same sex relations though he does oppose marriage. Not anti-science. Evolution and Global warming adherent.
Probably not nutty enough for Republicans though. Too bad. Might be an interesting race.

Well they have if they've read this thread, since he was on my list in the OP. I like him too. I didn't know he was pro-evolution.

Does the nutty wing of the party have to win? The Republicans offered us McCain last time.

Re: Things Michele Bachmann Doesn't Know ...
Why can't we get real conservative candidates? Why does our presidential election have to be a gameshow/reality TV program?
