Re: Thanks
Any kind of democracy needs an informed electorate. But a direct democracy would inform you when you vote for a law to be passed you would most likely read it. When you vote for a budget you would most likely find a pie chart where you can plainly see that killing big bird wont solve our financial situation.....
Why would that be any different in your direct democracy than it is today?

Not quite how things work here.
That's not quite how things work here.
First, many laws and budgetary items are voted on directly; it is only at the State and Federal level that real Representation gets involved. Locally we even televise city and county meetings so everyone can watch and see exactly what is decided and who decides it.
No one watches.
At the Federal level we also have 24/7 coverage of what happens. Nobody watches.
At the Federal level we also have every bill, every iteration for both House and Senate readily available online.
Nobody reads them.
So since all the information is there already, why do you expect your direct democracy to be any different?

Any employer who would cut workers time to avoid having to provide health insurance is simply a slime ball dipshit and I cannot imagine why anyone would work for such an asshole.

Huh?
Setting minimum standards is central planning?
Do you know what "central planning" means?
Where is "central planning" in the health care bill?

Re: statists ???????????????
You need a little realism there as well.
In the case of East and West Germany other than just statist conspiracy; maybe Russia striping all the manufacturing equipment as well as most of the agricultural production and continued demand for reparations while West Germany benefited from favored nation treatment, the Marshall plan and financial and industrial subsidy from the US played a part. Yet East Germany still managed to have the highest standard of living of all of the occupied Eastern Bloc nations.
In the case of North Korea do you think a virtual boycott by the US on economic development while again giving favored nation benefits and economic aid and development to, as well as providing markets for, South Korea might have played a part?

Theodore Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower thunk it. Both warned against ever giving a franchise to business or allowing corporations to influence legislation or elections.

Constitutional Convention
One issue with the Constitutional Convention route is that there would be no limits on what such a body could consider.

Re: Citizens United does suck, but ...
Another option is for SCOTUS to find that the Right of Free Speech belongs only to individuals and use the precedent that the right has been expanded in the past to include specified groups.

Re: Citizens United does suck, but ...
There are three Supreme Laws of the Land, the Constitution is just one. If the SCOTUS decides that corporations do not have the Right of Free Speech then corporations do not have the Right of Free Speech.
There is nothing in the US that prevents the SCOTUS for restricting my rights.
