quote: The facts that may easily be found are quite adequate.
quote: He’d been at the protest. Somebody near to him had shone a laser pointer at the officers. They wanted to ask him about that person.
quote: Making up excuses to defend illegality is not logically thinking. The more so since I see no reports of him running away.(Although people dressed in camouflage in an unmarked car could easily be far right thugs). quote: That was not all you were doing, though. You were lying about my view on rights. And the fact that you do invent accusations really proves my point.
quote: So innocent people caught up in a riot deserve to be arrested. Even if it is the police’s fault that they are caught up in a riot. Nice.
quote: Funny how you were calling it resisting arrest then.

quote: But if they can’t - and it is not always that easy - you say:
In that case you would have already stayed too long and become a part of the riot. So, like I said. You consider innocent people caught up in the riot to be guilty. Even if they could not have walked away.

quote: Well, that’s what I said,
quote: I said that they could point out that the arrest was illegal. If you classify that as resisting arrest my point stands. If you don’t then I didn’t say anything more.
quote: I was talking about saying things. You decided that meant resisting arrest.

Apparently the We Build the Wall campaign was lining the pockets of the organisers, including Bannon. Trump employs the BEST people.

Given the obvious contempt he has for Christians, I expect he does see those as reasons to prefer Trump.

The CDC has undone (some of) the political meddling from the Trump administration and restored its advice on testing. They again advise that people who have been in contact with an infected individual should get tested, even if they do not have symptoms.
Ars Technica. This is important to controlling the virus, because asymptomatic individuals can and do spread the virus. Trump repeatedly said that testing was bad because it increased the numbers, and it’s quite likely that this was the motivation behind the removal of that advice in late August. This change is likely related to the departure of Michael Caputo from the HHS for mental health reasons.(Ars)

Unfortunately the Executive and the Senate want power and will try to appoint a justice on political views rather than merit. There is no chance that the Republicans in the Senate will hold to the views they expressed when they blocked the appointment of Merrick Garland - who was a moderate and eminently qualified. This is a bad time for democracy in America,

In fairness a couple of Republican Senators have said that if Biden wins he should nominate Ginsberg’s successor.
So, points to them. But the real question is how they will vote if a Trump nomination is put before the Senate.

And the plot thickens
letter of Ellen Knight This letter deals with the clearance process, which was lead by Ms Knight. I’m not going to list everything she claims, but here are some highlights: The NSC Legal department played an unusually large role in the process. Even though the book had been cleared they delayed sending the letter which would allow publication. (Which gives some insight into why the book was published without the letter). NSC Legal told Ms Knight that the delay was due to the COVID crisis. After six weeks of delay NSC Legal drafted a letter claiming that further reviews were underway and claiming that it still contained classified material. It turned out that there had been a secret second review by a political appointee who had - according to Ms Knight - badly misunderstood the process and the appropriate criteria and had missed important checks. There was an attempt to get Ms Knight to sign a declaration that this was a simple difference of opinion between experts, and agree that the manuscript was unpublishable despite the huge amount of work she and her team had put in to get it to a publishable state. It seemed indeed that the political team were only interested in blocking publication. Ms Knight was scheduled to transition to permanent staff at the NSC but this has been blocked.

Reportedly he has mild symptoms. But he was highly infectious at the debate and quite likely passed it on to others on his team.
Ars Technica has more.

You’re right not to trust the White House.
According to the latest information, Trump was diagnosed 36 hours before the Friday announcement. Instead of quarantining he carried on as normal - without a mask - until the symptoms showed up. I don’t know how it will play, but over here that would be a major scandal. It looks as if they had to give him oxygen, too since his doctor refused to answer the question.
BBC Speaking to reporters, Dr Conley refused to say whether the president had ever been on oxygen despite being repeatedly questioned. He also said the team were "72 hours" into the positive diagnosis, which - if confirmed - would suggest the president attended an event on Thursday night knowing he was infected.

And more confusion. It appears that - as usual the White House is confused about the message they want to put out. Telling the truth would be easier.
Trump was given oxygen at the White House on Friday before being taken to hospital. Also from the BBC live reports:
And then, just minutes after the press conference concluded, an official struck a very different tone, telling the gathered press the president’s vitals over the last 24 hours were very concerning and the next 48 hours will be critical in terms of his care.

And more confused messaging.
Trump has been given a steroid, which reduces the effects cause by the immune system getting out of control. It’s only given to quite severe cases because suppressing immune responses isn’t something you want to do without a real need. So he definitely has a severe case and one that may have been fatal before the steroid treatment was discovered. But the doctors are also taking about Trump returning to the White House tomorrow. There are good medical facilities there, but it isn’t a hospital. Maybe they think the severe episode will pass by then.

I’ve seen a report that Brad Parscale, former campaign manager, embezzled millions of dollars from the Trump campaign.
There’s no reliable source for this, but even so I wonder what would happen if it got to Trump? Trump views the campaign funds as his money and he wouldn’t be at all happy about being robbed. At the least there is some evidence of shady goings on, with opaque accounts and Parscale funnelling money into his own companies. Trump getting COVID might be a lucky escape for Parscale (who is currently confined after a breakdown).

The Dow dropped 300 points after he tweeted that there would be no stimulus until after the election. I think that would hit him where it hurts.
