Sorry if this has been answered before, but I'm on my mobile, which makes it a pain (and costly) to search.
Who gets to vote in the primaries ? Is it just registered members of the relevant party ? Thanks.Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

It's a state by state thing. Most states have closed primaries which means you can only vote for candidates for the party you are registered with. Independents/unaffiliated voters cannot vote in the primary elections in these states. State with open primaries (from Wikipedia)
States with an open presidential primary AlabamaArkansas Georgia Hawaii (Open primary for state, local, and congressional races; closed caucus system for presidential races.) Illinois Indiana Massachusetts (All races' primaries open for "unenrolled"/unaffiliated voters only) MinnesotaMississippi Missouri North Carolina North Dakota Ohio South Carolina Tennessee Texas Vermont Virginia Wisconsin

I'm amazed that you were not aware of the Bonus Army story; that's almost like not knowing about the Zoot Suit riots or the Pullman Strike or how the policy of using US and State military forces to breakup unions and strikes changed during the 1902 Coal Strike.
The point Phat is that the US has a long history of Military disobedience of lawful commands from the Commander in Chief and of actions that certainly could be described as "Crimes Against Humanity" or as the behavior of Tyrants and Dictators. But unless our Citizens are educated and knowledgeable about past acts of our government how can the act as informed voters in this election.Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

I don't know why New Hampshire's presidential primary was left off Wikipedia's list, but we can vote in either primary. If you're already registered in the party you're voting for, then you just vote. If you're registered in the other party or as an independent then you register at the polls in the party whose candidates you want to choose among, and then you can vote. Then after the primaries you register back the way you were - they may do this for you automatically now.

You gotta admit that it is an effective method of governing people. Depends what you are thinking it is effective at. It was effective at turning the populace against American military and providing fuel for the revolutionaries fires resulting in repeated uprisings and large loss of life. But I guess maybe people were stealing bread less often or something.
Remember in the US we have a history of using such tactics Using torture and death to keep the populace in line? Mate, you're talking to a European.

I did think New Hampshire was missing from the list but I didn't follow up on it. Thanks for pointing it out!
I just Googled it and found (on Wikipedia) the reason it's not on the list:
It is not a closed primary, in which votes can be cast in a party primary only by people registered with that party, in that state. Undeclared votersthose not registered with any partycan vote in either party primary. However, it does not meet a common definition of an open primary, because people registered as Republican or Democratic on voting day cannot cast ballots in the primary of the other party. Edited by kjsimons, : Found the answer why NH is not on the list.

Using torture and death to keep the populace in line? Mate, you're talking to a European. Using governmental force and violence to keep the populace in line. Of police using dogs and fire hoses and beatings and tear gas and of lynchings and disappearings. Of ethnic cleansing and conquest of new territory by force and ignoring even our own treaties when it is in our interest. Unfortunately, yes, it can happen here and not just in the south.Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

Thank you. I now follow why it was only 1% of Nevada's population that voted for Trump.
Cheers.Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

I agree with this. I'd rather have Trump win than Rubio or Cruz.
Worse case scenario if he by some chance got the presidency, the congress could hopefully corral him likethe mad King George, before he did to much damage. It is not even simple to answer. The 2 parties do it differently!
RealClearPolitics has a breakdown:

In Saskatchewan, "cloudy" means there's at least one cloud in the sky. In British Columbia, "sunny" means there's at least one square inch of blue sky. What is the difference between semi-open and semi-closed? Partly sunny versus partly cloudy? (I actually like the American primary system. The Canadian system is similar in principal but it happens only when the party decides it should happen and only according to the party's rules. Typically, sixteen-year-olds can vote to select the candidate even if they can't vote in the election. Stuffing the conventions with busloads of high school students is a common tactic.)

The history of Puerto Rico under US control is rife with examples of this.
Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts "God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness.

Not just Puerto Rico, Hawaii is another great example. Florida was also an example. The Ethnic Cleansing under Andrew Jackson and his continued violation of both Treaty terms and opinions of the US Supreme Court are other clear examples.

Oh, I don't know. Maybe The Trump is the least crazy of them all. Cruz is a science-denier. He thinks that the world is 6 000 years old and that YEC should be taught in schools as science. Crazy as can be. Rubio is also a Tea-Bagger. So, as crazy as it seems, maybe The Don is the least crazy out of the three of them. In the end, anyone from the Dems will beat them sometime in November. Even Hillary can do it. Cruz and Kaisich seem the sanest out of the bunch... which is a truly remarkable statement to make and makes for a very sad state of affairs. I'm still hoping against hope that the Libertarian candidate will be halfway decent Edited by Hyroglyphx, : No reason given."Reason obeys itself; and ignorance submits to whatever is dictated to it" -- Thomas Paine
