We're experiencing an interesting development related to Border Control. Three of the regular border crossings here have been closed, suddenly and intermittently. The latest is now closing off all non-commercial vehicle crossing from Mexico into the US at the Pharr International Bridge. No reasons given.
Edited by jar, : left out which crossing is the latest

Trumps massive propaganda display on the National Mall gained prominent viewership and scored with traditional imagery which spoke to the population. Who is to say we are not a modern Empire?

I'm pretty sure Leni Riefenstahl filmed it so maybe I'll be able to catch it on TV.

Much better in the original German.
Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts "God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness. If your viewpoint has merits and facts to back it up why would you have to lie?

Trump’s understanding of history seems to be a little weak.
He boasted how the Continental Army took over the airports in the American Revolution. And it wasn’t the only historical gaffe.
BBC His excuse was that his teleprompter wasn’t working, and the rain made it hard to read when it was. Which only means he can’t blame his speech writers.

Britain's man in the the US says Trump is 'inept': Leaked secret cables from ambassador say the President is 'uniquely dysfunctional and his career could end in disgrace'
Usually not the best of sources, but the British government's reaction is confirmation: U.K. defends ambassador after disparaging Trump comments leak.

To be fair, about 0.2% of our population is about to vote in as leader of our country a man who couldn't find his own arse if he was given a map, detailed instructions and an experienced proctologist as a guide.
Stupidity is highly contagious, it seems.Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

From the Census bureau FAQ
Are undocumented residents (aliens) in the 50 states included in the apportionment population counts?Yes, all people (citizens and noncitizens) with a usual residence in the 50 states are to be included in the census and thus in the apportionment counts. Are children under 18 years old included in the apportionment population counts since they cannot vote?Yes, being registered to vote or voting is not a requirement for inclusion in the apportionment counts. U.S. Census Bureau: Page not found So the blue states, such as California, New York and New Jersey jack up their clout in the electoral college with people who can't vote. Sounds very ante-bellum South!

Sounds very Constitutional. The US government is not apportioned by citizens but by people. Are you claiming we shouldn't count children either? They are not jacking up their clout, the Census is following the dictates of the Constitution. Using you logic Texas, Georgia, Florida and North Carolina are jacking up their clout too. Do you want to take your comment and make an actual argument?Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts "God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness. If your viewpoint has merits and facts to back it up why would you have to lie?

HBO is currently running a British mini-series, Years and Years, which is a future history starting from 2020. Kind of shows what they think of us now.
So far, Trump gets re-elected and, a couple days before the end of his second term he pre-emptively nukes a Chinese artificial island. The world imposes sanctions against the US and we end up with President Pence. The world takes a big economic hit and then one of the largest banks, a US bank, goes completely insolvent. Similary, Netflix in the US is showing a French modern submarine thriller, The Wolf's Call, in which amidst rising tensions with Russia, the US is a complete do-nothing no-show. Again, shows what the world thinks of us now.

Well, that's the Constitution for you.
You probably already looked it up, but here's the direct quotation from Article One for our international audience:
Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons. Notice that it says "free persons". Not voters, not even citizens. The Fourteenth Amendment reiterates this, just removing the now deprecated distinction between free persons and other persons:
Representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State, excluding Indians not taxed. It does, though, add a new provision if a state were to deny people their right to vote:
But when the right to vote at any election for the choice of electors for President and Vice President of the United States, Representatives in Congress, the Executive and Judicial officers of a State, or the members of the Legislature thereof, is denied to any of the male inhabitants of such State, being twenty-one years of age, and citizens of the United States, or in any way abridged, except for participation in rebellion, or other crime, the basis of representation therein shall be reduced in the proportion which the number of such male citizens shall bear to the whole number of male citizens twenty-one years of age in such State. Notice the apportionment is still base on all persons, but can be cut down based on the proportion of citizens denied the right to vote.It says something about the qualities of our current president that the best argument anyone has made in his defense is that he didn’t know what he was talking about. -- Paul Krugman

CA NY and NJ are the top three in percent foreign born. Texas is #7. I was thinking of the ante-bellum South that counted "all other persons" and jacked up their representation, despite the fact that those "persons" weren't allowed to vote. History repeats itself as tragedy, then as farce...

Foreign born does not mean non-citizen.
History repeats itself as tragedy, then as farce...
Slavery and immigrants are not equivalent. I am not sure I understand the point you are trying to make. Our constitution does not restrict representation and counting towards representation to just people able to vote. Do you think it should?Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts "God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness. If your viewpoint has merits and facts to back it up why would you have to lie?
