NoNukes writes: I think I've been pretty clear about where my differences with ringo lie. Well, as is said here from time to time, it isn't what you think of your ideas, it's what other people think. So if you're right about being clear and it's a point worth pursuing then other people must know what you're on about and can fill me in.
I'll take your post as advice that I've drawn things too far. I'm not moderating the thread, and seriously, I don't know, even after reading a back and forth of about 10 posts having something to do with whether Ringo had a right to his indignance. --Percy

Oregon college shooting:
vimesey writes: More details to come, but here it goes again :-/Oregon college shooting: Gunman kills nine in Roseburg attack - BBC News School was a gun-free zone, as the targets often are. Shooter asked victims their religion. Witness quoted as saying
The shooter was lining up people and asking if they were Christian, Bodhi Looney posted. If they said yes, then they were shot in the head. If they said no, or didn’t answer, they were shot in the legs. That was reported in this story: Gunman sympathized with shooter at Virginia , and maybe also Newtown. He called himself "Lithium Love" on a dating website -- which reminds me that most or all of the mass shooters have been on some kind of psychotropic drugs. In fact the drugs should get major attention but they are hardly ever mentioned while the gun control agenda gets all the media coverage. Edited by Faith, : No reason given.

I'm not sure about the percentage of mass shooters who were on psychotropic drugs, but let's assume that's correct.
The thing is, we have a significant number of people over here on psychotropic drugs as well, but far, far fewer school and other mass shootings. This suggests to me that whilst drugs clearly are a factor in the causal chain of some mass shootings, you don't need to try to eradicate drug taking from society, in order to prevent the vast majority of such tragedies. There's a much more effective link in the causal chain to examine. But sure, if you can eradicate from society all drug use and all forms of psychosis which can lead to violence, then that would probably do the trick too.Could there be any greater conceit, than for someone to believe that the universe has to be simple enough for them to be able to understand it ?

In fact the drugs should get major attention but they are hardly ever mentioned while the gun control agenda gets all the media coverage. Certainly a valid point, but the bottom line was NOT that a shooter was under the influence of guns, and killed the victim(s) with drugs. Faith, if that report is true, it seems as if the gunman wanted to kill Christians relatively instantly with bullets through their heads. Minimum pain involved for the victims. Minimum suffering by victims.
Yet, he wanted to shoot non-Christians (atheists, Muslims, Jews, agnostics, Hindus, Buddhists, etc.) in the legs to suffer long, excruciating deaths; or maim them for life. One wonders what his motives were. Edited by Pressie, : Spelling.

Or maybe just that there he is with all this firepower and there aren't as many Christians as he thought but he's got to shoot somebody somehow. I dunno.

I would think the sensible thing to do would not be to eliminate all the drugs, but to keep guns out of the hands of those who are on them. You want gun control, let's control guns where it makes sense to control them.
ABE: I recall posting some information about the drugs these shooters are on, even possibly back in this very thread but I'm unable to find the post. I did find a post where I refer to such a previous post Message 1352 but search terms I tried didn't turn it up. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Edited by Faith, : No reason given. Faith writes: Or, he wanted Christians to have quick, relatively painless deaths while wanting all the other young people he shot to endure excruciating pain and suffering for life...that seems like the more logical explanation for what was reported to have happened.

Pretty far out possibility it seems to me. Usually if a shooter aims for the legs it's to spare the person's life, and it's unlikely this guy gave a thought to the suffering it would entail.

Nope. Shooting a person in the legs with a powerful weapon will definitely end up in an excruciating death and/or permanent maiming. Suffering for life. You really don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure that one out.

And we had the idiotic reply this morning from the moronic gun lobby explaining that the problem was not that the crazy had a gun but that the school kids didn't. Total Loony-tunes.
I felt for Obama this morning - he's supposedly the most powerful man in the world but can't take the action he wants to stop these appalling tragedies simply repeating themselves indefinitely.Je suis Charlie. The school was not a gun free zone. I am tired of the right wing bullshit lies to justify their goddamn warped perspective that enslaves us to those with the biggest lobbies and most money.
Faith you are being lied to, when will you develop basic critical thinking skills and actually try to understand something yourself rather than listen to those that always lie to you. which reminds me that most or all of the mass shooters have been on some kind of psychotropic drugs.
Care to support this with evidence? Are you mental health shaming? Psychotropic drugs are very important and helpful to a lot of people. Praying to your god does not help mental health issues but drugs can. You know nothing about this shooter but have already taken one tiny data point and jumped to the conclusion that drugs, not guns, caused the tragedy. You are a pitiful person.Facts don't lie or have an agenda. Facts are just facts "God did it" is not an argument. It is an excuse for intellectual laziness.

Care to support this with evidence? See Message 4192 A politician's website said it was a gun-free zone. What's your evidence that it's not?

So you have no evidence to back the contention that all or most shooters have been on psychotropic drugs? How about you get back to me when you find this evidence.
A politician's website said it was a gun-free zone.
