I can't find a source for his figures. Looking it up myself, the figures I found show that there are ~700 bicycle deaths annually, as opposed to ~30,000 gun deaths.
I agree with the author of the article that helmet laws are a good idea. I wonder if he would agree with me that maybe we should try to keep crazy people away from guns.
This article demonstrates the virtues of traffic safety laws. Imagine if we exercised the same caution when it comes to gun-wielding lunatics. Edited by Dr Adequate, : No reason given.

Seems a gun firm has developed a gun that only fires for its owner, thus making it useless to other people such as burglars and toddlers.
The CEO has been receiving death threats and pressure has forced gun shows to stop selling it.
The Oak Tree Gun Club near Los Angeles had agreed to sell the Armatix smart pistol until Calguns.net, a forum of second-amendment rights advocates, found out about the news. I have no qualms with the idea of personally and professionally leveling the life of someone who has attempted to profit from disarming me and my fellow Americans, one comment said. 'Cos nothing disarms people like selling them guns at a gun show, right? It seems as though the gun nuts have been defending gun deaths so long that they now actually think that the Second Amendment says that there shall be as many gun deaths as possible. Anything involving fewer gun deaths now elicits a knee-jerk reaction and a twitchy trigger finger. Weird, isn't it? Edited by Dr Adequate, : No reason given.

Yeah, like every other sensible measure to save a few innocent people from getting shot, it's the thin end of the wedge that forms the tip of the iceberg, and the next thing that'll happen is that all the True Americans will be gassed in totally real non-imaginary FEMA camps. This can only be averted by constant vigilance and carefully targeted death threats.

Yeah, it's not particularly inspiring. Top of the list: Man shot after he 'threatened to shoot everyone' during argument at Cleveland Avenue skate park. Hooray, the good guns will defend us from the bad guns! Thank heaven everyone had guns. Wait, wouldn't it have turned out better if no-one had guns? Next up, Homeowner shot, killed exchanging gunfire with would-be burglar ... OK, the good guns won't always defend us from the bad guns. Who's next? Ah yes, Police: Fatal shooting may be self-defense. Let us know. And then, of course, we have Shooters in Metro ambush that left five dead spoke of white supremacy and a desire to kill police. Er, that doesn't sound good. And in what sense is it a story about "Defensive Gun Use"? The killers shot themselves. Perhaps they did it defensively, eh? Well, thank goodness they had guns, or the whole thing might have turned nasty.

Well, I went with the top four. Would you rather I'd gone cherry-picking?

Being the top four at any one point in time has no significance. Quite. Which is what made it a random selection. Would you prefer that I picked and chose?

I don't think there's any way to safely shoot at people in a crowded city. In a crowded city you should protect yourself with a pair of specially trained tigers. Safety first!

It's a good thing he didn't have a gun. Because if you shoot someone at point blank range, the result is not "a small puncture wound".
Yes, there are always going to be crazy people. How can we make them less dangerous? Ooh, I know! If you don't know, here's a hint: my list was of people who were killed, rather than people who ended up with boo-boos. ---
Here is an equally tragic account of a woman being slapped in the face with a fish. Police describe it as a "large bream". She sustained exactly the injuries that people usually suffer when they're struck with a large bream. Edited by Dr Adequate, : No reason given.

You don't care about people dying. You don't care about preventing innocent deaths. You just dislike guns and don't want people to have them. Tell us more about your fantasy world. Why do people "just dislike guns", rather than just disliking umbrellas, or just disliking hats? We've established that it's not because they care about the victims of gun crime. (Heck, who could care about that? It's inconceivable.) Well, presumably they're equally indifferent to the victims of umbrella crime and hat crime. So how did they come to choose guns as the object of their arbitrary dislike?

We're talking about the death of 0.003% of our population. Let's say we're in a population of 33,000 people. 50 people over here are dying from this disease, 50 people over there are dying from that disease, and you come along: "I'm concerned about innocent deaths, there was one guy who was murdered with a gun. We need to do something about all this innocent death." As for the fraction of a person who died on 9/11 ... I guess that's just one of those things that no-one can really care about.

Okay, I work along side the healthcare industry. One thing I do is write and present topics, for continuing education programs, on things that can help reduce HAI's in hospitals. Well, I looked on the CDC's website, and it turns out that annually only 75,000 hospital patients with HAIs die during their hospitalizations. So you can't really care about them, and there's too few of them to bother about.
And then in my free time, I like to go down to the range and use my gun to punch holes in pieces of paper. My way is cheaper.
