Re: Curious
I'm just curious what is the reasoning here.
I'm not particularly enamored with guns. I don't even like to play shoot 'em up video games. But I can relate to people who like to do target shooting. When I was on active duty, I was required to maintain a qualification with a firearm despite the fact that I never actually carried one and was never assigned one. I always found the practice needed, which was just a couple of sessions before each qualification test, challenging and reasonably enjoyable. For me the issue was overcoming my physical reaction to the noise and recoil reasonably well enough to achieve a high score. I think the fact that I shot relatively infrequently added to the challenge.
I never picked up a firearm any other time, but I really don't find it hard to imagine people doing target shooting for fun, and of course lots of people do that and never have loaded guns or ammo at home. Some people don't even bring their guns home.

Re: Gun Clubs, Armories, and the National Guard
and that this would fill the second amendment qualifications for the formation of a well regulated militia.
You mean the constitutionally described militia of the Several States that is discussed in the Article 2? The one that the president is the command-in-chief of? Or are you talking about the fantasy militia gun nuts think we ought to have just in case the federal army attempts to march down one of the various Jefferson Davis Highways.

Re: Stupid gun nut arguments
How is this a a good argument? Of course we are going to call the police, that is how a civilized society works.
The argument appears ridiculous because you are not channeling the spirit of a gun advocate. Gun advocates will tell you that the police will arrive well past time to shoot so you need to be the one hanging out in Starbucks or the bar, or the DMV with your BFG at the ready.

All things being equal, teenage boys in states without gun control are going to be more respectful of dads with a gun than they are in states where dad can't have a gun, especially if the dad is a little wimpy guy and the teenage boy is big and strong.
What kind of punk-man are you? How do you think households without guns manage this situation?

Teenage girls are already adept at that (or so I hear ).
That surely must be the case. That teen pregnancy Map Dr. Adequate posted suggests that states with lots of guns also tend to have lots of teen moms.

I never said that. I want teenage boys to be aware that a spur of the moment passion of a girls father could cause them to get shot if they don't think twice about having their way with her.
Or if they don't think twice about dropping by to play a game of backgammon.
Kids are already afraid of getting caught by parents. The reaction to that fear is to make arrangements not to get caught.

Re: The Gun Industry: Making the World a Safer Place
it's important to realize that so much gun interest is within the U.S. government.
And? Who is advocating for law enforcement to have more lethal weapons? Not me.

The police, the Dept of Homeland Security, the EPA, they will have all the guns they want.
So what's your argument. The police have lots of guns, so ...

History shows that the disarming of the public can have some really bad consequences.
You seem to have forgotten that the question we are discussing is not disarmament, but rather the reason gun manufacturer's advertising those super killing power bullets are a great idea.
Are you saying that you need more killing power to be able to fight the police and the EPA. If that's correct I'd appreciate you letting me know.

I can't go to my local food store more than once or twice without seeing a few of them in the aisle gibber-jabering among themselves in Spanish. I don't think there's a landscaping company anywhere around here that doesn't have an almost exclusive Mexican workforce.
I hear ya marc. Time to start spraying lead.

I don't like it when police shoot unarmed 19 year old girls
We have to ask because it seems that you like the idea of teen age boys fearing being shot by irrational dads.
There is also the funny idea that you think Kentucky is a great place to live because you think having teen moms is immoral.
So yeah, we have to ask.

Re: The Gun Industry: Making the World a Safer Place
I'd really need you to look at a 6th grade history book as a start - I can't describe to you the benefits of an armed citizenry in a few paragraphs.
Cute.
I am not asking for a history lesson. I am asking you for the meaning behind your mention of the arms carried by the police and the EPA when asked about the bullet advertisement. I'll take your playing coy as an admission that you are talking about arming yourself against law enforcement. Typical gun nut crap.

"FEARING" is the key word. It's not that complicated.
No it isn't complicated. Just irrational. The evidence suggests that it does not work. People do shoot boyfriends on occasion, and they also shoot their own nieces hiding in closets. But it turns out that a few irrational shootings doesn't generate the fear that keeps teenagers from getting pregnant.

No takers? That's curious..
Dr. Adequate writes:
My money says that next year, as usual, more U.S. citizens will be killed by private firearms than by those in government hands. Can I get anyone to take the other end of the bet?
Kinda surprising that it would be hard to find someone to take up "armed revolution" side of the bet.
Republicans say U.S. headed toward ‘armed revolution’: Poll - Washington Times
quote:
A survey of Republicans found nearly half agreed that an armed revolution in order to protect liberties might be necessary in the next few years.
The poll, from Farleigh Dickinson University’s Public Mind, surveyed a random sampling of 863 registered voters and had a margin of error of plus-minus 3.4 percentage points.
It found 44 percent of registered Republicans believed an armed rebellion could come in the next few years. But only 18 percent of Democrats and 27 percent of independents agreed.
Of course the poll asked the question of what "might" happen which makes the poll a little bit loopy. But not so loopy that it does not show a fairly dramatic difference between Republicans and everyone else.

So no news reports? No support for your claims? When did you turn into a fundy?
I can find news reports of people being kidnapped and forced to drive to an ATM. Not sure how jar finds out about so many if they are unreported.
